What to do if you have a terrible toothache in the middle of the night

I believe many of my friends have experienced severe toothache in the middle of the night. The cause of the disease may be that we eat too many hot foods at night, which triggers it at night. At this time, we should brush our teeth more and take painkillers to relieve it. If it is a mild toothache, you can also hold something cold, which is also effective in relieving toothache. There are many specific methods to treat toothache in the middle of the night, you can learn about it.

What exactly causes toothache in the middle of the night? In fact, toothache caused by pulpitis often occurs at night. So what is pulpitis?

Pulpitis is a relatively common dental disease with pain as the main symptom, even severe and unbearable pain, which often makes patients restless and have difficulty eating. Pulpitis is mainly caused by infection from the tooth. If deep caries, wedge-shaped defects and other dental hard tissue diseases are not controlled and treated promptly and effectively, they may cause pulpitis, which becomes one of the most frequent and common diseases in the oral cavity.

The causes of pulpitis include physical factors, bacterial factors, idiopathic factors and chemical factors.

Physical factors:

Acute dental trauma, such as traffic accidents, sports competitions, violent fights that cause teeth to be hit or injured violently, traumatic occlusion, chronic occlusal trauma caused by fillings or other restorations that are too high, and other mechanical traumas.

Bacterial factors:

Pulpitis should be said to be an infectious disease, and bacteria are an important pathogenic factor of pulp disease. There are three main ways that may lead to pulp infection: tooth infection, periodontal infection and blood-borne infection.

Bacteria can directly infect the exposed pulp due to caries, traumatic tooth fracture, accidental pulp exposure when drilling and grinding the tooth, pulp exposure due to wedge-shaped defects, pulp exposure due to severe wear and tear in the elderly, pulp exposure due to fracture or wear of the deformed central cusp, when the bottom of the deformed lingual fossa or the deformed lingual groove is not covered by enamel, and when the tooth crack is deep into the pulp cavity. If the dentin covering the pulp tissue is very thin, bacteria and their toxic products can pass through the dentinal tubules to reach the pulp cavity and cause pulp infection. Bacteria may also reach the root apex through the periodontal tissue, enter the pulp cavity through the apical foramen and cause retrograde infection. This pulpitis caused by pulp infection through the periodontium is called retrograde pulpitis. Pulpitis caused by blood-borne infection is quite rare.

Idiopathic factors:

Both internal and external tooth resorption can cause some unexplained pulp lesions.

Chemical factors:

Extreme temperature changes, such as high-speed, continuous drilling of teeth, the use of amalgam to fill deep cavities without a base, repeated external temperature stimulation, and rare electric current stimulation.
