What is neurological tinnitus? Causes of neurological tinnitus

Neurological tinnitus is a common disease in daily life. Patients often hear continuous sharp and piercing sounds, which seriously affects their normal life and study. So what is neurological tinnitus? Let's take a look at the causes of neurological tinnitus!

The cause of neurological tinnitus is still unclear, but it is mainly caused by some factors that cause dysfunction of the auditory nerve endings. The characteristic of neurological tinnitus is that the sound of the tinnitus may be loud or soft, and is generally a long, continuous sound, such as the sound of cicadas or a telephone, but there are also sounds like running water, wind, or machinery. Diagnosis requires routine ear examinations, audiological examinations, tinnitus tests, etc.

Neurological tinnitus can be divided into physiological tinnitus, conductive tinnitus, neurological tinnitus and objective tinnitus.

Since the causes of this disease are relatively complex, such as colds, emotions, fatigue or noise, it should be treated actively in the early stages, otherwise it may cause hearing loss or even deafness.

It is generally not difficult to diagnose neurological tinnitus based on medical history and symptoms, but the following tests are sometimes necessary to make a clear diagnosis:

1. Routine ear examination

2. Electrical audiometry: It can objectively evaluate the functional status of the auditory system. When people develop hearing loss, the initial assessment of the degree of hearing loss is based on an electrical audiometric assessment.

3. Acoustic admittance: the reciprocal of acoustic impedance. The examination includes: tympanometry test, tympanometry reflex and Eustachian tube function test.

4. Auditory brainstem evoked potential

5. Otoacoustic emissions: Like an "acoustic probe", it provides clinicians with a window to directly understand the mechanical activity of the cochlea, especially the outer hair cells. It is of great significance in guiding clinical treatment and prevention.

6. Masking test

7. Lidocaine test

8. Imaging examination: CT and MRI examinations can be performed.
