Ginseng and Astragalus

Ginseng and Astragalus

American ginseng and astragalus are actually common Chinese herbal medicines. Both have a good effect of replenishing the human body, but American ginseng is relatively mild. In fact, the ways of taking American ginseng and astragalus in daily life are similar. They can be decocted and taken with other Chinese herbal medicines, or they can be cooked with other ingredients.

Which one is better for replenishing qi, American ginseng or astragalus?

American ginseng and astragalus are both qi-replenishing medicines, but American ginseng is relatively mild and can replenish both qi and yin. It is especially suitable to be put in a cup of water and made into tea for those who suffer from qi deficiency or who are exhausted from talking a lot throughout the day. Because it can also replenish yin, American ginseng is suitable for these people who, in addition to fatigue, always have dry mouth and are even prone to getting angry. It replenishes yin while replenishing qi, and thirst is also eliminated.

Astragalus is the first choice medicine for tonifying the spleen, and its effect is greater than that of American ginseng. It is more suitable for people who are always tired, have a yellow complexion, a fat tongue, and even have tooth marks on the edges, and often have unformed stools. These are typical signs of spleen deficiency. This type of people not only always feel tired, but also catch colds more easily than others. Astragalus is more suitable for them and is even an indispensable medicine for "anti-pornography" (yellow-faced women). I once had a friend who was a lawyer. He was very busy and talkative, and his complexion was always yellow. He felt extremely tired at night, and he would cough at the end of speaking. These were all manifestations of qi deficiency and exhaustion. After drinking Astragalus water, these problems were greatly reduced.

However, Astragalus is hotter than American ginseng, so it may cause some people with yin deficiency to get inflamed. If you already have dry mouth and dry stool, Astragalus is not suitable for you. If you want to eat it, it is best to use it with something like Adenophora. You can use 15 grams of Astragalus with 10 grams of Adenophora, and the warm nature will be alleviated.

How to drink American ginseng and astragalus in water

1. Prepare 3g of American ginseng slices or ginseng roots, 3g of wolfberry, add appropriate amount of boiling water, cover and simmer for about 5 minutes, then you can drink it. You can repeatedly brew it until there is no ginseng taste.

2. Take out 3g of American ginseng slices or ginseng roots and 0.5g of chrysanthemum, and drink it with boiling water. It has the effects of nourishing yin, promoting body fluid, clearing away heat and improving eyesight. Add 3g of American ginseng slices or segments or ginseng roots and 1g of Ophiopogon japonicus to water, bring to a boil, then simmer for about 1 hour and drink the juice. It can enhance the yin-nourishing, body-boosting and lung-moistening effects of American ginseng.

3. Put the American ginseng in a cup, add boiling water, and pour it in. After pouring it in, cover it with a lid, let it sit for a while, and close it. After five to ten minutes, you can drink it. Drink it all day long, and add some water when it’s gone. Basically, drink one cup a day. In the end, you can eat all the American ginseng.

Drinking American ginseng in water will not affect its efficacy. The medicinal effect of American ginseng slices is relatively slow, so you can drink it slowly by soaking it in water to achieve a better therapeutic effect. The efficacy of the medicine will not be greatly reduced. !The main ingredients of American ginseng slices are mostly water-soluble substances, which can be well dissolved in water and thus well absorbed by the human body.
