Health and longevity are the goals and beautiful wishes that people have been striving for. Nowadays, many people attach importance to health preservation. Regardless of their own physical condition, they are "eager to try" when they see the wide variety of supplements on the market. In fact, health preservation requires both supplementation and protection. "Protecting" the essence, energy, and spirit in the body and allowing these subtle substances to fully play their role is the correct way to preserve health. The following situations require special attention. Talking too much consumes energy and damages body fluids. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that "talking too much consumes energy." If you work in occupations that require excessive use of your voice, such as teachers or drama actors, for a long time, it is easy to consume energy and damage body fluids, leading to frequent symptoms such as dry mouth and throat, or diseases such as pharyngitis, laryngitis, and vocal cord polyps. At this time, if you use sweet and cold herbs such as Sterculia lychnophora and Ophiopogon japonicus to soak in water, it can only temporarily relieve the symptoms, and may also damage the spleen and stomach due to the coldness of the drugs. This is because we only replenish yin and ignore the importance of replenishing qi. In this case, the first thing you should do is talk less, use your voice less, and protect your Qi and Yin. If it is really unavoidable, you can add a little Pseudostellaria baicalensis, honey, etc. to the Sterculia lychnophora and Ophiopogon japonicus to replenish Qi and produce body fluid.
Staying up late damages the blood. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that compared with the invisible yang energy, visible blood is yin. "Nourish yang during the day and nourish yin at night." Night is an important time to nourish yin and blood. If you often stay up late, or reverse your day and night for various reasons, it will lead to damage to the yin blood and cause symptoms such as forgetfulness, hair loss, and irregular menstruation. The most important thing to do at this time is not to take blood-enriching products such as donkey-hide gelatin, but to adjust your work and rest schedule immediately and protect the yin blood; secondly, you can soak your feet in hot water before going to bed, which can guide the fire back to the origin and promote sleep; thirdly, you can cook porridge with longan, red dates, lily, etc. with wheat to nourish blood and aid sleep.
Excessive sexual indulgence will damage your sperm. Kidney essence comes from the innate nature and depends on the acquired nourishment of water and grain. It plays the role of reproduction, nourishing the marrow and bones and regulating the functions of the whole body in the human body. People who overindulge in sexual intercourse and damage their sperm will not only show reproductive abnormalities, but also symptoms such as weak bones, empty brains, and abnormal body temperature sensations. In this regard, Chinese medicine advocates "preserving essence": first of all, one must practice abstinence to preserve essence; secondly, one should appropriately participate in outdoor activities to regulate liver qi, invigorate the spleen and stomach, and nourish the innate with the acquired; in addition, one can also use black beans, coix seeds, walnuts, etc. to cook porridge for nourishment.
Overwork consumes energy. Reasonable labor is beneficial to the circulation of qi and blood, the exercise of muscles and bones, and the enhancement of physical strength, but excessive labor that violates the routine will affect your health. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that "illness comes from overwork" and only by balancing work and rest and achieving "physical work but not fatigue" can we preserve our positive energy, maintain a balanced state in the body, and achieve health and longevity.
Sadness will cause the energy to disappear. The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine believes that "when one is sad, the heart becomes anxious, the lungs become erect, the upper part of the body is blocked, the blood and defense systems are not dispersed, and the heat remains in the middle, so the qi is depleted." This sentence means that excessive sadness will lead to the depletion of qi in the heart and lungs. Generally, people who are sad and cry easily tend to have a gloomy complexion and poor physical condition, which is a sign of damage to the heart and lung qi. In life, we should learn to regulate our emotions and prevent ourselves from being overly sad. We can apply the theory of the five emotions overcoming each other in the "Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor", that "joy overcomes sadness". When people are sad, we should try to relieve their sadness with things that can bring about joy, such as telling jokes, going out to appreciate the beautiful scenery, etc., to distract their attention.
Worrying is stressful. Excessive thinking can easily exhaust the mind, causing it to lose nourishment and make one feel dazed and restless all day long. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that shock and fear can suppress thinking, so you can prepare some "little surprises" to temporarily free people from thinking. Relax yourself appropriately, go out for a walk, relax your mood, and eat more foods such as melons and beans that soothe the liver and strengthen the spleen, which will help to maintain the spirit. |
