What are the characteristics of a short pulse?

Pulse deficiency mainly refers to the pulse rate being less than the heart rate in the same unit of time. The main characteristic is that the heart rate is completely irregular, and the heart rate is different in speed, and the heart sounds are different in strength. Therefore, for these clinical characteristics, attention should be paid to correct examination and treatment.

1. Deficit pulse : Deficit pulse means that the pulse rate is less than the heart rate in the same unit time. Its characteristics are completely irregular heart rhythm, varying heart rates, and varying heart sounds. The mechanism of occurrence is that due to the different strengths of myocardial contractility, some beats with low cardiac output only occur between the hearts but cannot cause pulsation of peripheral blood vessels. Therefore, the pulse rate is lower than the heart rate. This phenomenon is called "short pulse" or "short pulse". Seen in patients with atrial fibrillation. The more the pulse is short, the more serious the arrhythmia is. When the condition improves, the "short pulse" may disappear. If you encounter such a patient, you should measure both the heart rate and pulse rate.

2. Pulse deficiency means that when auscultating the heart and measuring the pulse at the same time, the pulse is less than the heartbeat. It is a rhythm disorder.

This is because sometimes the heart's ejection of blood is not fully prepared, so the force of the ejection is small and the amount of blood ejected is very small, which is not enough to cause the pulsation of peripheral blood vessels. The most common patient is atrial fibrillation. It can be an important sign of atrial fibrillation because the atrial heart rate is very fast during atrial fibrillation, and the ventricular beats are also fast and slow. Sometimes the ventricles are not ready and eject blood in a hurry, thus causing shortness of breath. But we should also note that sometimes premature beats can also cause it. Frequent premature beats, in particular, can sometimes cause misunderstandings during auscultation, and be mistaken for atrial fibrillation.

3. The method of measuring short pulse : Two nurses are assigned, one to measure the pulse and the other to measure the heart rate. The nurse measuring the heart rate looks at the watch and calls for the start of the measurement and ends it in one minute. Pulse deficiency is recorded in fractional form, with the recording format being heart rate/pulse rate.
