Does coughing with intravenous drip heal quickly?

Does coughing with intravenous drip heal quickly?

Coughing is just a symptom, it is not a separate disease. Therefore, when coughing occurs, the specific cause should be identified first, and then symptomatic treatment can be given. Some patients are prone to coughing and ask the doctor to give them an infusion. This idea is wrong. If it is not particularly serious, it is best not to give an infusion. You must pay attention to this aspect. Long-term infusion will lead to poor immunity.

What diseases may cause cough?

1. Upper respiratory tract infection

It is what ordinary people commonly call "cold". After catching a cold, the upper respiratory tract may be infected by pathogenic microorganisms, causing respiratory inflammation and coughing. This is the main cause of cough symptoms. Generally, most cases can be clinically diagnosed based on the causes (cold, fatigue, unclean diet, etc.), medical history (short onset, within 2 weeks, cough, sputum, sore throat), and physical signs (throat congestion, fever, etc.). For this type of cough, generally speaking, no infusion is required. Most patients with good immunity can usually recover on their own, even without drug intervention. A small number of patients only need to take some cough suppressants, expectorants, or Chinese patent medicines for dispelling exterior pathogens and clearing the lungs. Only a very small number of patients need infusion, including those with chronic bronchitis attacks, many complex underlying diseases in the past, poor immunity, high fever for 3 days, hemoptysis, dyspnea, blood routine results showing a significant increase in white blood cells, and chest X-rays showing lung infection. Note: Even if intravenous antibiotics are used, they are mainly used to control inflammation. There are no cough suppressants for intravenous infusion. Cough suppressants are basically oral preparations. In many cases, after the inflammation is controlled, the cough symptoms will still continue for several days.

2. Heart Disease

Heart failure can lead to pulmonary edema and pulmonary congestion, which may cause coughing. The coughing at this time has basically nothing to do with catching a cold. The treatment mainly focuses on controlling heart failure. The cough can only be relieved after the heart failure is corrected.

3. Digestive tract diseases

Coughing may also occur with GERD. This type of patients often have obvious coughing when lying down, which is relieved after standing up, accompanied by symptoms such as acid reflux, belching, heartburn, etc. There are no obvious changes in chest X-rays and blood routine tests, but they are accompanied by many gastrointestinal symptoms, such as loss of appetite, abdominal distension, constipation, etc., which can usually be diagnosed through gastroscopy. The treatment is mainly based on gastrointestinal prokinetic drugs + acid inhibitors.

4. Drug-induced cough

Common drugs that can cause cough in clinical practice are mainly those for treating hypertension: ACEI (angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors) drugs, such as captopril, enalapril, benazepril, perindopril and other "prils", one of whose side effects is "throat discomfort, irritating dry cough, hoarseness, and hiccups." The treatment measure is to change the antihypertensive drug. Among the above situations, only a small part requires intravenous infusion treatment, so when you go to the hospital for cough, do not "actively ask for intravenous infusion". The doctor will give you the most appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan based on the situation!
