Does sandalwood contain musk?

Sandalwood is actually a tree. It grows very slowly and is extremely precious. It is often used as a medicine in traditional Chinese medicine to promote qi circulation, relieve pain, dispel cold and regulate the stomach. Musk is also a medicinal ingredient, so does sandalwood contain musk? What are the differences between the two?

Sandalwood: It is the woody heartwood of the small tree plant Santalum alba of the Santalaceae family. Its distribution is similar to that of agarwood. However, the sandalwood tree is one of the slowest growing tree species. During the seedling stage, it must parasitize on other trees such as the phoenix tree in order to survive. Therefore, it is particularly scarce and precious, and my country mainly relies on imports. The aroma of sandalwood is deep, tranquil, holy, mellow and penetrating. It is especially fragrant when burned with other spices. Therefore, it has always been highly praised by Buddhists and collectors, and plays an important role in people's home life. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that it is pungent and warm in nature, and has the effects of promoting qi and relieving pain, dispersing cold and regulating the middle. It is especially good at warming and relieving pain, and is good at treating chest pain, heart pain, abdominal cold pain, stomach cold pain and other symptoms. It is mostly taken orally in the form of decoctions, pills and powders. Famous prescriptions include Danshen Drink, Suhexiang Pills, Guanxin Suhexiang Pills, Kuanxiong Pills, etc. in "Shi Fang Ge Kuo". It is also often used externally for skin diseases, or burned to disinfect, repel insects, calm the mind and promote sleep.

Musk: It is the dried secretion from the scent glands and scent sacs below the navel of mature male musk deer of the Cervidae family. Most of the musk used now is obtained through surgical extraction of musk from artificially domesticated musk deer. It is a famous specialty of my country, with the highest quality and yield in the world. Musk has a fishy smell when in solid state, but after dilution it has a special animal aroma that is strong and lively. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that it is pungent and warm in nature, and has a very strong running nature. Therefore, it has miraculous effects in opening the orifices, eliminating filth, unblocking the meridians, dispersing blood stasis, relieving pain, and inducing labor. It has obvious therapeutic effects on many diseases such as closed syndrome coma, stroke coma, convulsions, epilepsy, angina pectoris, urinary retention, carbuncle swelling and pus, sore throat, bruises, wind-cold and dampness, as well as amenorrhea and dystocia in women, and is especially good at emergency treatment.

Western medicine also makes this product into various dosage forms for use as a cardiotonic, stimulant and other emergency medicines. This product is not used in decoctions, but in pills, powders, pastes and pills for oral or external use, such as Zhibao Pills and Angong Niuhuang Pills for invigorating the brain, Musk Pain Relief Paste and Yunnan Baiyao for removing blood stasis and healing wounds, Liushen Pills and Niuhuang Pills for eliminating carbuncles and detoxifying, Xianggui Powder for inducing labor, and Musk Baoxin Pills for relieving numbness and promoting yang, all of which are very commonly used. This product is now also used to treat vitiligo, paralysis caused by polio, lymph tuberculosis, digestive tract tumors and other stubborn diseases.
