What are the gynecological endoscopic examinations?

Gynecological endoscopy is an instrument used to examine the cavity or internal organs for lesions. It is generally composed of three parts: a cold light source, a fiber light guide and a mirror. The endoscopes commonly used in gynecology are laparoscopes, hysteroscopes and colposcopes. Most women will have gynecological problems to varying degrees after giving birth. If you feel any discomfort, go to the hospital for an endoscopic examination as soon as possible.

What are the gynecological endoscopic examinations?

(1) Laparoscopic examination: After a laparoscope is inserted through the abdominal wall and inflated into the abdominal cavity, the location, shape, size, nature and relationship of the lesions of the internal reproductive organs (including the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries) as well as the surrounding tissues can be directly observed. The tumor can also be punctured or a biopsy can be taken for further diagnosis. In recent years, with the diagnosis of pelvic masses confirmed by laparoscopic examination, some benign lesions can be treated surgically under laparoscopy. In addition, laparoscopy can also replace the second laparotomy after ovarian cancer treatment to determine whether there is tumor recurrence or metastasis in the abdominal cavity and to judge the treatment effect.

(2) Hysteroscopy: A hysteroscope is inserted into the uterine cavity from the cervix to observe the location, size and shape of lesions in the uterine cavity. It can also be used for biopsy. It is particularly important for identifying various unexplained uterine bleeding and postmenopausal bleeding. Such as intrauterine polyps, submucosal uterine fibroids, cervical canal cancer, endometrial adenocarcinoma, choriocarcinoma and residual hydatidiform mole. (3) Colposcopy Colposcopy is also a type of endoscope. It is an examination method between the naked eye and a low-power microscope. It uses a stereo magnifying glass under a strong light source to directly observe lesions of the cervical and lower reproductive tract epithelium. Patients with the following conditions should consider colposcopy: those with Pap smear cytology results showing contact bleeding of Pap grade II or above, moderate to severe cervical erosion, asymmetric erosion, erosion that has not been cured for a long time, or those who are suspected of cancer by naked eye.

A colposcope is a type of gynecological endoscope that can magnify images 10 to 60 times and detect tiny lesions that are invisible to the naked eye. It is especially important for the diagnosis of precancerous lesions of the lower reproductive tract, early cancer, and sexually transmitted diseases. However, in order to improve the accuracy of the examination, the timing of colposcopy should also be considered.

Before arranging the examination, the doctor will ask about your medical history and menstrual history in order to choose an appropriate time for the examination. However, the time of colposcopy should be arranged according to the condition of the disease. Some serious diseases can be performed at any time.

1. If you suspect cervical cancer or precancerous lesions, there is no time limit and you can do it at any time. The earlier it is detected, the more timely the treatment can be.

2. If you suspect lesions in the cervical canal, it is best to perform the examination during the ovulation period, when the cervix is slightly open, making the examination more convenient.

3. If cervicitis is suspected, it can be performed within two weeks after the menstruation ends.
