Is cardiac preexcitation syndrome serious? Beware of arrhythmia

Cardiac preexcitation syndrome needs timely treatment because it can easily cause arrhythmias. If arrhythmias do not occur, the harm to the body is not great. If the condition is severe and atrial fibrillation occurs, antiarrhythmic drugs should be taken in time to avoid serious harm.

1. Is cardiac preexcitation syndrome serious?

The most common complication of this disease is arrhythmia, which is also the reason why this disease needs treatment.

Preexcitation syndrome itself does not harm health. If arrhythmia does not occur, no treatment is required. However, it is rare for people with preexcitation syndrome to not suffer from arrhythmia throughout their lives. Most patients begin to experience arrhythmia in youth or middle age. A few patients develop arrhythmia in childhood or even infancy. A very small number of patients develop arrhythmia in old age. Once arrhythmia occurs, the general rule is that the number of attacks becomes more and more frequent, and each time lasts longer and longer. It is easy to be terminated by treatment measures at the beginning, but the effect gradually becomes worse and even ineffective. The arrhythmia associated with preexcitation syndrome is mainly atrioventricular reentrant supraventricular tachycardia (hereinafter referred to as supraventricular tachycardia).

;In addition, some patients may also develop atrial fibrillation (hereinafter referred to as AF)

Most patients only experience supraventricular tachycardia and not atrial fibrillation; some patients only experience atrial fibrillation in their lifetime and have never experienced supraventricular tachycardia; and some patients have both supraventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation can occur alone or be converted from supraventricular tachycardia.
