What medicine is effective in treating rhinitis?

Rhinitis is a common clinical disease, which is a nasal disease. Rhinitis can cause patients to have obvious runny nose symptoms, which can be treated with medication. Regarding the question of what medicine to use for rhinitis, you can generally choose some anti-inflammatory drugs or antibacterial drugs to treat rhinitis.

1. Anti-inflammatory drugs

Glucocorticoids:

A. Intranasal topical glucocorticoids: have anti-inflammatory and anti-edema effects, and the course of treatment is no less than 12 weeks; emphasize that regardless of whether there are nasal polyps, whether it is drug treatment alone or drug + surgery, whether it is preoperative or postoperative treatment, intranasal topical glucocorticoids are the first-line treatment for chronic rhinosinusitis.

B. Systemic glucocorticoids: Prednisone (or prednisolone) can be taken orally. The recommended dose is 0.5 mg/(Kg.d), taken in the morning on an empty stomach, once a day. The course of treatment is 5-10 days, with a maximum of 14 days.

Macrolide (14-membered ring) drugs (such as clarithromycin, roxithromycin):

The main effect is anti-inflammatory, not antibacterial.

It is recommended to take a small dose (1/2 of the conventional antibacterial dose) orally for a long time (the course of treatment is not less than 12 weeks).

2. Antimicrobial drugs:

Sensitive drugs such as penicillins, cephalosporins, sulfonamides, macrolides, fluoroquinolones, etc. are used for acute attacks of chronic rhinosinusitis at conventional doses, with a course of no more than 2 weeks.

Topical antibiotics for the nasal and sinus regions are not recommended.

3. Decongestants (ephedrine, oxymetazoline) :

Long-term use is not recommended and can be used for a short period of time (<7 days) only when it seriously affects the patient's quality of life (for example, during an acute attack, causing severe nasal congestion or headache).

4. Mucus promoter:

For example, Ginoton can dilute viscous nasal and sinus secretions, promote the nasal mucociliary motility, improve the quality of life, and enhance the efficacy of local glucocorticoids;
