The seven orifices are connected to the five internal organs. How can we know our health by looking at our faces?

The so-called seven orifices are the seven holes on the face. The "Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor" points out that the essence of the five internal organs reaches the seven orifices respectively: the heart opens to the tongue, the spleen opens to the mouth, the lungs open to the nose, the liver opens to the eyes, and the kidneys open to the ears. What this means is that by observing the condition of the five senses, you can understand the health of the five internal organs. Is it really that magical? Let’s find out together!

1. The heart opens to the tongue

“The heart’s qi is connected to the tongue. When the heart is harmonious, the tongue can taste the five flavors.” Generally, if the heart is healthy and the heart qi is sufficient, the tongue will move flexibly and be able to distinguish the five flavors. Generally, a rosy tongue means that the heart qi and blood are sufficient.

The heart controls blood vessels. The tongue is rich in blood vessels. By observing the tongue we can reflect the health of the heart. If the heart yang is insufficient, the tongue will appear plump, tender and dark purple. If the heart yin is insufficient, the tongue will be red. If the heart blood is deficient, the tongue will be dull. If the heart fire is inflamed, the tongue will be red, rotten, and painful. If the heart blood is blocked, the tongue will be purple or have bruises. If the heart controls the mental function abnormally, there will be language disorders and slurred speech.

2. The kidney opens to the ear

The kidneys and ears have a close relationship. Generally, if we want to nourish the kidneys, we can massage the ears more. Generally, when the kidneys are deficient, tinnitus and hearing loss will occur, and even the sound of cicadas in the ears will appear!

If the elderly experience hearing loss, they should also consider that their kidney qi is weak. Therefore, if there is a problem with hearing, you might as well try to replenish your kidney qi, which should have some effect!

3. The liver opens to the eyes

Generally, we always say that clearing the liver can improve eyesight. Putting the liver and eyes together, we can see that the two are closely connected. The liver stores blood, and blood is the most direct material basis for eye activity. So the prosperity or decline of liver blood will affect our vision. If the liver blood is insufficient, the eyes will be blurred and unclear. If the liver fire is strong, then there may be red and swollen eyes. If the liver is deficient in yin, then the eyes will be dry and blurred. If the liver qi is stagnant for too long, it can lead to bitter taste in the mouth and dizziness.

4. The lung opens to the nose

"The lung qi flows to the nose. When the lungs are in harmony, the nose can sense fragrance and odor." The lungs are an important part of the respiratory system, and the nose is the entrance for breathing in and out. If the nose wants to ensure normal breathing and sense of smell, the lung qi needs to be harmonized. In addition, if there is a problem with the lungs, it will also be reflected in the nose. If you catch a cold, you will have a blocked and runny nose. If you have lung heat, your nostrils will be dry.

5. The spleen opens to the mouth

"Lips are the organ of the spleen." Lips are the external manifestation of the spleen. When the spleen is sufficient, the lips are rosy and lustrous. If the spleen is unhealthy, the lips will be pale and dull!

The seven orifices connect to the five internal organs. We can judge the health of the five internal organs by observing our five senses. Of course, we can only make a diagnosis. The specific clinical diagnosis needs to be combined with other symptoms or methods to make a comprehensive judgment!
