What is the TCM treatment for rectal polyps?

Many people know about rectal polyps. This disease is very common and belongs to the anorectal department. Rectal polyps are prone to malignant transformation, so treatment must be timely. Traditional Chinese medicine has a long history and is also effective in treating rectal polyps. Enema may be considered as a TCM treatment for rectal polyps.

(1) Clinical aspects: Chronic mucus stools, bloody stools, abdominal pain, chronic recurrent paroxysmal or persistent, accompanied by varying degrees of systemic symptoms. A small number of patients with enteritis only do not have bloody stools. During the physical examination of past medical history, attention should be paid to extraintestinal clinical manifestations such as joints, oral cavity, eyes, serous membranes, skin, liver and spleen.

(2) Sigmoid colon or fiber colonoscopy examination can show: ① The affected colon mucosa presents with multiple superficial ulcers, accompanied by congestion and edema; the lesions often start from the rectum, often involving the colon, and are diffusely distributed. ② The intestinal mucosa appears rough and granular, with fragile tissue that is prone to bleeding, or may be covered with thick secretions, like a thin layer of moss attached. ③ The colon pouch often becomes flat or blunt, and even the pouch disappears. Sometimes multiple pseudopolyps of varying sizes can be seen. ④ Pathological changes in colon mucosal biopsy show inflammatory reactions, and mucosal erosions, crypt abscesses, abnormal arrangement of colon glands and epithelial changes are often seen.

(3) Barium enema can show: ① The colon tube is shortened, the colon pouch disappears, or the colon takes on a tubular appearance. ② Recurrent ulcers or multiple pseudopolyps. ③The colon mucosa is rough, disordered, or has fine granular changes.

(4) Pathological examination: exclude specific infectious colitis such as bacillary dysentery, amoebic dysentery, schistosomiasis, granulomatous colitis, and radiation colitis.
