Blisters after moxibustion

Blisters after moxibustion

Moxibustion is actually quite common in our daily life, but some friends will develop blisters on their bodies after moxibustion. There are generally several reasons for this kind of problem, such as excessive moxibustion, disease-eliminating reaction, etc. When doing moxibustion on your body, you must go to a regular place and never go to some small clinics as there is no guarantee.

1. What causes blisters after moxibustion?

1.1. Excessive moxibustion

If the moxibustion time is too long or the amount of moxibustion is too much, it will easily lead to blisters. In this case, it is best to shorten the moxibustion time or reduce the number of moxibustion times.

1.2. Disease elimination reaction

For some people, blisters appear after moxibustion, which is a reaction to expel disease. The human body has heavy pathogenic qi, and blisters may also be the process of restoring the body's positive energy and eliminating pathogenic qi. This kind of blisters is conducive to recovery from the disease.

2. What symptoms will occur after moxibustion?

2.1. Red and white spots. If the skin flushes unevenly after moxibustion, and there are light white spots of varying sizes in the middle of the flush, and some are even more white than red! This is due to the blockage of local meridians and the poor circulation of qi and blood. It is recommended to continue the moxibustion treatment until the warmth sensation at the moxibustion site increases, the white spots on the skin disappear after moxibustion, and uniform flushing and sweating appear, which is a sufficient dose for a course of treatment.

2.2. The skin is flushed and watery in patches. During the moxibustion process, the skin around the acupoints will appear flushed in patches, and even have water vapor, and feel moist to the touch (this phenomenon usually occurs when using a moxibustion box or moxibustion cup; this reaction rarely occurs during suspended moxibustion). This reaction usually indicates that the amount of moxibustion at one time is relatively sufficient and the moxibustion can be stopped.

3. How long after moxibustion can I eat?

Generally speaking, there is no problem in eating immediately after moxibustion. Just pay attention to keeping warm after moxibustion, avoid excessive drinking, and eating frozen and cold foods. Moxibustion mainly activates blood circulation through its warm nature, and it mainly acts on the surface of the body. There is no need to worry about what food you eat. However, the general practical recommendation is that it is better to eat half an hour after moxibustion, so as to maintain the effect of moxibustion better and avoid affecting blood circulation by food digestion after moxibustion.

It is recommended to drink more warm water after moxibustion. Since moxibustion can generate yang energy, drinking more warm water can help detoxify and allow the cold air in the body to be discharged with urine, which can enhance the effect of moxibustion.

What should I pay attention to when doing moxibustion?

1. Moxibustion sequence

Traditional rules: first up then down, first back then front, first left then right, first torso then limbs. Some individual acupoints have individual orders.

2. Moxibustion frequency

When you first start moxibustion, you should take it slow and pay attention to gradual progress. You can do moxibustion every day for about half a month, that is, 15 days, and then take a two-day break. Then do moxibustion every day. If you feel much better after moxibustion in the first half of the month, or if you don’t have enough time, you can choose to do moxibustion every other day, or two to three times a week!

If you are not in any physical pain, you can apply moxibustion to the health points every three days, for about 25 minutes at each point. If you have a severe cold or other illness that needs treatment, you should still follow the previous method and do moxibustion every day!

3. Moxibustion time

Many moxibustion friends ask, when is the best time for moxibustion? Can I do moxibustion at night if I don't have time during the day? In principle, you can do moxibustion at any time of the day. Morning is the best time for moxibustion. Morning>afternoon>evening. If you have no problem with sleep, you can do moxibustion at night. If you have problems with sleep, try to end moxibustion before 10 pm, otherwise it will easily affect your sleep.
