Pharmacological effects of Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae

Pharmacological Action

1. Diuretic effect: Anesthetized dogs were given 0.1g/kg of Tianjihuang extract or 6.6mg/kg of Tianjihuang total bioalkali iv, normal rats were given 1g/kg ig, and normal humans were given 10-30g of Tianjihuang powder orally. All of them had significant and lasting diuretic effect, and the excretion of chloride in urine was also significantly increased. Inulin isolated from Rhizoma Cibotii has an inhibitory diuretic effect when administered orally or ip to rats.

2. Effects on the nervous system: The effects of flavonoids on the nervous system are similar to those of nicotinic acid, but the intensity is only 1/5-1/20 of nicotinic acid. It has an excitatory effect first and then an inhibitory effect on the chemoreceptors of the autonomic ganglia, adrenal medulla, medulla oblongata centers (especially the vomiting center), neuromuscular junctions, and carotid and aortic bodies.

3. Inhibitory effect on the central nervous system: The succinic acid contained in this product can protect mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs against hyperbaric oxygen, electric shock and audiogenic convulsions when administered ip. The hot plate method has analgesic effects, works synergistically with sodium pentobarbital, and has sedative and hypothermic effects.
