What are the side effects of spinal anesthesia for cesarean section?

Before a caesarean section, anesthesia is required, and anesthesia is often spinal anesthesia, which is a general anesthesia method. The reason why local anesthesia is not used is because caesarean section is a relatively large operation. Of course, after spinal anesthesia, it will have a certain impact on the mother. If the conditioning is not good, it may cause certain sequelae, such as physical discomfort, memory loss, etc.

If local anesthesia is used during a caesarean section, some women may experience severe headaches, while others may experience back pain. Different symptoms vary from person to person. When you are under general anesthesia, you may feel dizzy, have a dry and sore throat, or feel nauseous and vomit. If morphine is used in the anesthetic, the mother may also feel itchy all over the body. These side effects will gradually disappear within 24 to 48 hours after delivery.

1. Physical discomfort

Many women feel that they have sequelae of anesthesia for cesarean section, such as soreness or tingling where the anesthetic was injected, and lack of strength in the whole body. In fact, experts say that most women feel that they have sequelae of anesthesia for cesarean section, but these are actually psychological effects. Only a small number of people actually have sequelae of anesthesia for cesarean section. The above situation may be temporary nerve damage, which may be caused by direct mechanical stimulation or neurotoxicity of local anesthetics. The symptoms are generally mild and can disappear within 3-6 months even without any medication.

2. Memory loss

Generally, women will experience short-term memory loss and unconsciousness after anesthesia, but will recover soon after waking up from anesthesia. The drug components retained in the body will also be decomposed and excreted within a certain period of time. The feeling of memory loss is mostly due to psychological factors, not the sequelae of cesarean section anesthesia.

3. General anesthesia

in the country, most people choose partial anesthesia for caesarean section, and fewer people choose general anesthesia. Intrathecal anesthesia is a good anesthesia method with minimal impact on the mother and fetus. However, in some special cases, general anesthesia may be more appropriate. During pregnancy, pregnant women are more likely to have difficulty intubating than other people due to obesity and edema of the respiratory mucosa. Foreign studies have confirmed that pregnant women are more likely to suffer from aspiration during general anesthesia, which affects their ventilation function.

Low back pain after cesarean section is a typical postpartum disease, also known as postpartum rheumatism. If you do not take good care of yourself during the confinement period, catch a cold from the wind, or eat raw, cold food, it may cause back pain after cesarean section.

Postpartum rheumatism has the following symptoms:

1. Headache, dizziness, or fear of cold.

2. Eye discomfort, fear of wind, tears, heavy eyelids, tiredness, and sleepiness (if you cried during the confinement period, or watched too much TV and read too many books, this symptom is very likely to occur).

3. There is soreness, numbness, chills, heaviness and tiredness in the joints, hands, feet, waist, shoulders and soles of the feet.

4. Stomach discomfort, bloating, chills, and loss of appetite.

5. Frequent colds, continuous colds, and slightly more serious cases may also have symptoms of continuous high fever.

6. Irregular menstruation, with lumpy, black or white discharge, abnormal timing and amount, and amenorrhea may occur in severe cases.

7. The lower abdomen will feel bloated, inflated, and slightly painful.

8. Yellowish complexion and decreased memory.
