Several issues on orthodontic anchorage nails

Several issues on orthodontic anchorage nails

When correcting teeth, support pins are often needed. This is a commonly used auxiliary tool for correcting teeth, especially for some teeth that are difficult to correct. Support pins are used to position and fix the support pins. It is a temporary auxiliary tool. After the teeth are corrected, this auxiliary tool must be removed. In addition, this type of support pin will not affect the beauty of the teeth and will not cause any side effects.

1. What is a bone nail?

Mini bone screws (also called bone screws, as shown in the circle in the picture above) are temporary mini implants that are implanted into the alveolar bone. Because of its superior function and simple implantation, it has become an increasingly popular auxiliary tool for corrective treatment in recent years. After the correction is completed, the bone screws will be removed and the gaps in the bone screws will heal on their own. Domestic and foreign research reports have shown that bone screws can safely and effectively assist in corrective treatment.

2. What is the function of bone screws?

Its function is to provide a fixed source of force to help pull the teeth. It has a very good effect in correcting protruding teeth, gummy smile, deep bite, over-eruption of molars, and the need for receding teeth, and can achieve results that are difficult to achieve with traditional orthodontics. Among them, the most commonly used clinical case is probably protruding teeth. With bone screws, they can help you pull your teeth back 24 hours a day to correct the protruding teeth face shape.

3. Will bone screw implantation be painful?

First of all, the implantation process is performed under local anesthesia, which is quick and simple. In fact, you won’t feel much, so don’t worry too much!

4. How to take care of the bone screws?

Bone screws should also be cleaned with a toothbrush to maintain the health of the surrounding soft tissue and reduce the chance of inflammation and loosening. A few people may feel a foreign body sensation in their oral mucosa. If necessary, the bone screws can be covered with white wax or a rubber band can be put on to relieve discomfort.

5. I don’t want to use bone screws. Are there any other alternatives?

If you really need an additional anchor source to help pull the teeth, but don't want to plant bone screws, are there any other options? In some cases, the function of bone screws can be replaced by traditional head caps (the following pictures show two types of head caps). However, traditional head caps need to be worn for more than 12 to 14 hours a day, and require your high level of cooperation to achieve adequate therapeutic effects.

Of course, not everyone needs bone screws for braces! Please consult your orthodontist for a personalized evaluation of your situation.
