What sleeping position should I take if I have a broken rib?

Some people say that you should sleep on your side after a rib fracture, as this will be good for your body. In fact, this is not true. Sleeping on your side may affect the healing of the ribs, so the best situation is to lie flat and rest, which is a better posture. If the rib fracture is serious, it is best to use a more correct sleeping posture under the advice of a doctor to avoid affecting your condition.

First, drink more bone soup, get more sleep, eat more meat with tendons, and eat more fruits. Older people still need to supplement calcium regularly. This can speed up bone healing and you can drink more milk. This is one of the best ways to get calcium.

Second, when the bones have healed a little, you can do some activities in bed, which will help the healing of the bones. Staying in bed for a long time without exercise will cause muscle atrophy, which is not conducive to bone recovery.

Third, drink more water and pay special attention to your breathing. There may be abnormal chest pain when breathing. If you find difficulty breathing, take measures such as oxygen inhalation immediately. This is also a care measure for rib fractures.

There are many clinical manifestations, but the typical manifestation is local pain. The body is particularly painful when taking a deep breath, coughing or turning the body position. The injured chest wall will swell, and the pain will worsen when the chest is tender or squeezed. Sometimes the patient will also have obvious breathing difficulties, so patients with fractures must be cared for at all times. This is to prevent the patient from having difficulty in moving, which may aggravate the condition.

There are many examinations in clinical practice, but after discussion among experts, chest X-ray is the most commonly used examination at present, because it can intuitively reflect fractures and dislocations of broken ends. Therefore, when a patient has a rib fracture, he or she should go to the hospital immediately and not ignore it, as that will make the patient's condition worse.

In clinical practice, there are closed single rib fractures and multiple rib fractures. When treating single fractures, the focus is on analgesia, stabilization of the chest cage and prevention of complications. The treatment of multiple rib fractures is to keep the airway open, treat cough weakness, and the inability to cough up sputum quickly. Sometimes organ intubation or organ incision is required.

Note:

First of all, for such patients, the diet should pay attention to the richness and variety of food, and at the same time have nutritional value. It is advisable to choose light and easily digestible food, but avoid eating foods that are irritating to the lungs and airways, such as chili peppers, peppers, and raw onions. If the patient has obvious systemic symptoms, the food should be between normal food and semi-liquid diet.

Secondly, for early patients, due to blood stasis in the injured area, blood flow is poor, so the early diet should be mainly composed of foods that promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, and the diet should be light, such as vegetables, fruits and fish soup. However, due to poor blood circulation, it is strictly forbidden to feed patients greasy food too early to avoid blood stasis.

Finally, for patients in the recovery period, since their fractures have gradually recovered and blood stasis has basically dissipated, they should strengthen their nutrition to help bone recovery. The patient can transition to a normal diet, and can usually eat some old hen soup, pork bone soup, etc.
