What should I do if my mouth corners repeatedly develop herpes?

Herpes is a skin disease that is relatively common in the human body. It can be caused by many reasons, such as bad living habits such as smoking, drinking, or staying up late, endocrine disorders, or viral infection. Many people will experience repeated herpes at the corners of their mouths. In this case, people need to take timely measures to deal with it. The following is a detailed introduction on what to do if herpes repeatedly appears at the corners of your mouth.

Treatment:

According to most domestic and foreign literature reports, it is mainly divided into four aspects: oral medication, local medication, nerve block, and surgery. Overall, the treatment effect is poor.

Oral medications mainly include three categories: anticonvulsants (gabapentin, pregabalin, carbamazepine, etc.); antidepressants (tricyclic antidepressants, selective serotonin uptake inhibitors, etc.); opioids (tramadol, morphine, oxycodone controlled-release or sustained-release formulations, etc.). It should be noted that tramadol should not be used in combination with tricyclic antidepressants.

Local treatment is generally performed in the early stages of post-herpetic pain, and mainly includes: lidocaine patches (generally containing 5% lidocaine), capsaicin, and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. Depending on the location of the pain, the corresponding nerve block area can be selected, which usually needs to be performed multiple times. The main methods include: thoracic and lumbar paravertebral nerve root block, supraorbital nerve block, thoracic sympathetic ganglion block, stellate ganglion block, and continuous spinal epidural block.

Surgery is mainly performed on patients whose daily lives are severely affected by pain that is ineffective with medication and nerve blocks. The purpose of surgery is to block or modulate the conduction of pain, or to control pain through central nervous system medication, mainly including: spinal cord electrical stimulation, dorsal root incision, and continuous drug pumping into the subarachnoid space.

Herpes treatment tips:

1. Avoid eating spicy food: Herpes is mostly caused by getting angry, so spicy foods such as peppers, onions, ginger, and garlic should be avoided;

2. Don’t eat seafood, especially shrimps and crabs: Seafood is an allergic food. Once herpes is present after eating seafood, it will not only not get better, but will cause more and more outbreaks. So don't eat seafood, the consequences of greed can be very serious;

3. Drink more water: If you have internal heat, you should drink more water and urinate more, so that you can get rid of internal heat. If possible, you can also drink some honeysuckle soaked water, which is a traditional Chinese medicine for removing internal heat, but it is not recommended to drink too much;

4. Eat more fruits: Eat some fruits with high vitamin C content, but don’t eat oranges, durian and other fruits that are easy to get angry. Generally, apples, strawberries, etc. are fine;

5. Apply antibiotic ointment: I don’t recommend a brand here. Go to the pharmacy and buy herpes ointment. It’s pretty easy to use. Apply it a few times and it’s basically ok.

6. Don’t eat coriander: coriander is inflammatory, which means it can promote herpes outbreaks just like seafood. So don’t eat coriander when you have herpes. Wait until you are completely healed before eating it.

7. Drink green tea to reduce internal heat: Green tea can also reduce internal heat. Don’t drink black tea, just ordinary green tea, a lighter one will do. Brew it three times and drink it every day. It can relieve greasiness and reduce internal heat.

8. Avoid fried, roasted or grilled foods: These foods can cause irritation, so just be patient with them for now! Just eat some cold and boiled vegetables with less oil. Stay away from junk food too.
