Why do hemorrhoids suddenly appear?

The incidence of hemorrhoids is very high. As the saying goes, nine out of ten men have hemorrhoids, and ten out of ten women have hemorrhoids. However, the condition of some people is not very serious, while for some people, hemorrhoids cause great impact and require treatment. The occurrence of hemorrhoids is related to many factors. To avoid hemorrhoids, it is important to find out the cause. So, why do hemorrhoids suddenly appear? Let’s take a look at the reasons below.

1. Sitting or standing for long periods of time

This is mainly related to occupation. For example, white-collar workers and drivers who sit in the office for a long time, teachers who stand on the podium for a long time, etc., due to their occupations, they often sit or stand for a whole day and are a high-risk group for hemorrhoids.

2. Chronic infection of the lower rectum and anal canal

The long-term increase in the number of daily bowel movements caused by these chronic infections, as well as the fibrosis and loss of elasticity of the veins themselves and surrounding tissues caused by local infections, are also factors in the occurrence of hemorrhoids.

3. Habitual constipation

This is the most common and important reason.

4. Long-term illness damages the spleen

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that long-term illness will damage the spleen, and the spleen is the source of the sublimation of qi and blood, and is the commander of the human body's qi and blood. Injury to the spleen will cause loss of qi and blood. Qi deficiency cannot retain blood, leading to hemorrhoid prolapse and increased bleeding. Not only long-term illness, but also long-term cough and diarrhea are important causes of spleen damage and hemorrhoids.

5. Genetic relationship

The venous walls are congenitally weak and have reduced resistance, and cannot withstand the pressure within the blood vessels, so they gradually expand.

6. Local irritation and improper diet

Exposure to cold or heat in the anus, constipation, diarrhea, excessive drinking and eating spicy foods can all irritate the anus and rectum, causing congestion in the hemorrhoidal venous plexus, affecting venous blood return and resulting in a decrease in the resistance of the venous wall. In addition, old age, physical weakness, long-term illness, loose and weak anal sphincter, and excessive fatigue can all induce the formation of hemorrhoids.

How to prevent hemorrhoids

1. Clean

When you have finished your bowel movement, your responsibility is not over yet. It is very important to clean the anus gently. Some toilet paper is rough, while others contain harsh chemicals. Colorless (white) and odorless toilet paper should be used. It is best to install a bidet at home and flush it after each bowel movement.

2. Do not lift heavy objects

Heavy lifting or strenuous exercise, like straining during a bowel movement, should be avoided if you are prone to hemorrhoids.

3. Use of medication

There are various creams and suppositories on the market that are specifically designed to treat hemorrhoids. Although these medications usually won't make your problem go away, they are mostly topical analgesics that can relieve some of the discomfort. Avoid using ibuprofen or aspirin for pain relief, as these can make bleeding worse.

4. Take a warm bath

Soaking your buttocks in warm water may be the best way to treat it. Warm water promotes blood circulation in the affected area, helps shrink swollen veins there, and relieves pain.

5. Lubricate the anus

Once you increase your fiber and water intake, your stool will become softer and easier to pass. You can also apply some petroleum jelly inside your anus to further promote smoother bowel movements and reduce pain. Dip a cotton swab or your finger in some Vaseline and apply it half an inch inside the anus.
