As we all know, the brain is one of the most important organs in the human body. All brain nerves control human behavior and senses. Once the brain is traumatized, it will always directly affect the body. But there are always bumps and bumps or accidents in life that can cause brain damage. After a brain injury, certain sequelae or complications may occur, such as dizziness, headache, memory loss, etc. Whether the sequelae of brain trauma can be recovered depends mainly on the patient's condition: sequelae of brain trauma are common diseases in neurosurgery. Brain trauma is caused by car accidents, falls from heights, collisions, etc., and manifests as coma, vomiting, epilepsy, incontinence, limb paralysis, etc. Minor injuries can be recovered and the patient will wake up after a coma; severe injuries have a lower chance of waking up and some patients will develop into a vegetative state. Brain trauma is divided into an acute phase and a recovery phase. Patients usually need to stay in bed for a long time, especially those with limb paralysis. The sequelae of brain trauma, also known as post-traumatic brain syndrome, refers to a group of autonomic dysfunction or mental symptoms that persist for a long time in patients with brain trauma after the recovery period. The sequelae of brain trauma include headaches, nervousness, irritability, concentration problems, memory problems, dizziness, insomnia, fatigue and other symptoms. Neurological examinations were unremarkable and neuroradiological examinations were unremarkable. If this group of symptoms persists for more than 3 months after the brain injury without improvement, it is called post-traumatic brain syndrome. Usually, these patients suffer from mild or moderate closed head trauma without serious neurological damage. Clinical manifestations 1. Aphasia caused by brain trauma: Aphasia refers to the loss of language comprehension and expression ability caused by damage to the language center of the cerebral cortex. Language disorders can manifest in many forms. One person may only lose the ability to understand written language (alexia), while another may be unable to recall or name an object (anomia). Some people with anomia do not remember the correct name of an object, while others know the word but are unable to express it. Dysarthria is the inability to pronounce words clearly and accurately. 2. Agnosia due to brain trauma: Agnosia is a rare symptom in which a person can see or perceive an object but cannot associate it with the object's role and function. Agnosia occurs when a person cannot recognize familiar faces or common objects such as spoons or pencils, even though he or she can see and describe them. 3. Post-traumatic epilepsy: Post-traumatic epilepsy refers to epilepsy that occurs after brain trauma. Epileptic seizures are caused by abnormal discharges of brain neurons. 10% of patients with severe non-penetrating brain injuries and 40% of patients with penetrating brain injuries develop epilepsy, which may occur several years after the brain trauma. The type of seizure is related to the site where the abnormal discharge originates. |
