The treatment of pyelonephritis should start from three aspects

The treatment of pyelonephritis should start from three aspects

In clinical practice, most people will first determine the type of nephritis they suffer from when treating their own nephritis. So, how to treat pyelonephritis?

Infection Control:

The application of antibiotics can be based on the condition and drug sensitivity test, and usually two antibiotics are used in combination. Such as sulfamethoxazole plus trimethoprim; doxycycline plus trimethoprim; furazolidone plus gentamicin. Usually one course of treatment is 4 weeks. If symptoms do not improve after 3 to 3 days of medication, the medication should be changed. After one course of treatment, stop taking the medicine for 5 to 7 days and then start another set of drug treatment.

Prevention and treatment of recurrent infection:

Long-term use of small doses of enhanced sulfa tablets or furantidine can effectively prevent recurrence or reinfection.

Prevention and treatment of reinfection:

Recurrent urinary tract infections are mostly considered "recurrences" in men and "reinfections" in women. It is advisable to use antibiotics for one week. You should drink plenty of water and try to empty your bladder completely (i.e. reduce residual urine volume). If vesicoureteral reflux is present, repeated urination exercises should be performed. For urinary tract obstructive lesions, stones or infected non-functioning kidneys, surgical treatment should undoubtedly be performed.
