Xuejie, a traditional Chinese medicine. It is made from the resin exuded from the fruit of the palm plant Euphorbia cerasifera. Distributed in Java, Sumatra, Borneo and other places in Indonesia. It has the effects of promoting blood circulation and relieving pain, removing blood stasis and stopping bleeding, promoting tissue regeneration and healing sores. Used for traumatic injuries, heart and abdominal pain, bleeding from trauma, and persistent sores.

Kirinja is a perennial evergreen vine, up to 10 to 20 meters long. The stems are sheathed and covered with sharp spines. Pinnate compound leaves are alternate at the branches, sometimes nearly opposite at the lower part; leaflets are alternate, linear-lanceolate, about 20-30 cm long, about 3 cm wide, with sharp tips, narrow bases, and three parallel veins; petioles and rachis have sharp spines. Spadix, with pale yellow crown flowers, unisexual, dioecious; 6 perianths, arranged in 2 whorls; male flowers with 6 stamens, long conical anthers; female flowers with 6 sterile stamens, 1 pistil, bottle-shaped, ovary slightly ovate, densely covered with scales, short style, stigma with 3 deep lobes. The fruit is drupe-shaped, ovoid-spherical, about 2 to 3 cm in diameter, reddish brown, with yellow scales. The fruit contains dark red liquid resin, which often seeps out from under the scales and looks like a blood clot when dry.

Growth environment

It grows in low humidity and hot and humid areas and is distributed in Java, Sumatra, Borneo and other places in Indonesia.

Medicinal properties

This product is slightly square or brick-shaped, with a dark red, shiny surface and red powder caused by friction. It is hard and brittle, red when broken, and brick red when ground into powder. Slight odor, light taste. Insoluble in water, softens in hot water.
