Sciatica pain in eight months of pregnancy

Sciatica pain in eight months of pregnancy

Pregnancy is a particularly important event in a woman's life. During pregnancy, expectant mothers are usually very careful, both in their daily life and in their physical health. Because the baby in the mother's belly is connected to the mother through the placenta and umbilical cord during pregnancy, the food and nutrients consumed by the mother, including some substances that are harmful to the baby, will be absorbed into the baby's body through the placenta and umbilical cord. Therefore, pregnant mothers should be extra careful, because if there is a problem with the body, considering the safety of the baby, they cannot take medicine casually. So what should you do if you suffer from sciatica during your eighth month of pregnancy?

Sciatica:

Sciatica is a syndrome characterized by pain along the sciatic nerve pathway and distribution area. The vast majority of sciatica cases are secondary to lesions in the local sciatic nerve and surrounding structures that cause stimulation, compression and damage to the sciatic nerve, which is called secondary sciatica; a few are primary, namely sciatica.

Causes:

There are many causes. The sciatica in the vast majority of patients is secondary to the stimulation, compression and damage to the sciatic nerve caused by lesions in the local sciatic nerve and surrounding structures, which is called secondary sciatica; a few are primary, namely sciatica.

Answers to sciatica during pregnancy:

During pregnancy, especially in the late stages of pregnancy, some pregnant women often feel leg pain, which is pain caused by mechanical compression of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the thickest peripheral nerve in the body. It is located deep to the gluteus maximus and supplies movement and sensation to the posterior thigh, calf, and foot. In the late pregnancy, the fetus gradually develops and the uterus increases in size with the months of pregnancy. Especially when the fetal head descends into the pelvic cavity, it can mechanically compress the sciatic nerve passing through the pelvic cavity, causing neuralgia along the sciatic nerve pathway and its distribution area. Generally, leg pain in pregnant women occurs in one case, often after walking and activities. The pain often starts from the buttocks and hips, and goes down along the outside of the thigh, fossa, calf to the outside of the dorsum of the foot. It is radiating pain and continuous dull pain. When the pain is severe, the lower limb muscles cramp and movement is limited. There is no special method for treating leg pain during pregnancy. Vitamin B12 can be taken orally or injected intramuscularly, and rest should be taken if the pain is severe. After delivery, the mechanical pressure is relieved and leg pain will naturally disappear.

Solution:

1. Due to pregnancy, the pregnant mother's uterus will gradually expand, and the belly will get bigger and bigger, which will cause the pregnant mother's center of gravity to move forward. In order to walk normally, we will unconsciously straighten our chests, which will also cause excessive bending of the lumbar spine, and eventually lead to sciatica in pregnant mothers.

2. When we feel pain, we can try using a hot towel or a hot water bottle and apply heat for half an hour. This can relieve the pain. However, please note that it is best not to use a hot pack.

3. Pregnant mothers should be careful not to lift heavy objects to avoid spraining the waist and causing sciatica.

4. Pregnant mothers should have good living habits. Whether standing or sitting, do not stand for too long. Move around frequently and do not stay in the same posture for a long time. Move your limbs more often. Do not wear high heels but flat shoes with moderate hardness. Rest more and avoid overwork.
