Cystic cervical mass

Cystic cervical mass

Cervical cystic mass, also known as cervical retention cyst, is caused by cervical erosion due to various reasons. During the healing process, the new squamous epithelial cells will cover the cervical gland duct openings, which will cause blockage of the gland duct openings, thereby causing connective tissue hyperplasia, compressing the gland ducts, and obstructing the drainage of glandular secretions, which may lead to cysts. It is also called cervical nabothian cyst.

Cystic cervical mass

This has nothing to do with ovarian cyst (chocolate cyst), they are two completely different lesions. But the final diagnosis must be based on pathological diagnosis. Clinical manifestations of cervical retention cysts: During examination, multiple bluish-white cysts of varying sizes (not purple) can be seen protruding from the surface of the cervix. They contain mucus, and the small ones are as big as rice grains and the large ones are as big as corn kernels. Some can grow very large, protruding from the surface of the cervix and even reaching the vaginal opening. The roots are connected to the cervix by a pedicle, and are often accompanied by cervical hypertrophy.

Treatment: 1. For scattered and relatively small cervical gland cysts, the first priority is to determine whether there is vaginitis or cervicitis, and actively treat the primary disease, which can make the cyst improve or even disappear. 2. For dense or relatively large Nabothian cysts, phototherapy, laser, microwave, and other physical treatment methods can be considered. Regular follow-up visits based on clinical treatment records have proven to be effective. 3. For larger tumors protruding from the surface of the cervix, electrosurgical resection or self-coagulation knife removal can be considered.

Cause 1. Long-term stimulation of chronic inflammation Due to long-term stimulation of chronic inflammation, the tissues repeatedly become congested and edematous, inflammatory cells infiltrate and connective tissue proliferate, resulting in cervical hypertrophy. 2. After the inflammation of cervical fibrosis is cured, the congestion and edema are reduced or subsided. Due to fibrosis, the cervix is completely covered with squamous epithelium, with a smooth surface and enlarged volume; the cervical glandular cyst also still maintains its protruding cystic shape. 3. When the cervical gland duct is squeezed by the surrounding tissue, the gland opening is blocked, so that the secretions in the gland cannot flow out and are retained inside, causing the gland cavity to expand and form cystic tumors of varying sizes, which are called cervical gland retention cysts. The mucus it contains is often clear but may be turbid and purulent due to concurrent infection.
