What is rebound insomnia?

Many people don’t know much about rebound insomnia. It refers to people with insomnia who often take sleeping pills and suddenly stop taking the medicine, they may experience this kind of insomnia symptoms. This is usually caused by sleep disorders. At this time, the patient’s condition is often worse than when he did not take the medicine. It often occurs in patients who take sleeping pills for a short period of time after stopping the medication. The impact on the patient's health is relatively large.

Introduction Rebound insomnia occurs in both insomniacs and normal people, and is characterized by prolonged wakefulness time that exceeds the baseline. Rebound insomnia can occur in patients taking short-acting and medium-acting benzodiazepines at high doses, but does not usually occur in patients taking long-acting benzodiazepines. Rebound insomnia often occurs when taking high doses of the drug, but too high a dose does not increase the hypnotic effect because the drug concentration in the blood slowly decreases. Likewise, rebound insomnia can be avoided by slowly tapering short- and intermediate-acting benzodiazepines.

Hazards of rebound insomnia: 1. Leading to amnesia: Long-term insomnia will cause the body's memory to degenerate. Patients often show symptoms of forgetfulness and forgetfulness of what they just wanted to say. In severe cases, it develops into Alzheimer's disease. Although it cannot be said that frequent insomnia will directly induce Alzheimer's disease, it can at least be one of the factors that induce Alzheimer's disease. 2. Causing habitual hair loss: Modern medicine shows that the length of sleep time has a significant relationship with hair loss, and hair loss is also closely related to sleep quality. Therefore, frequent insomnia can easily lead to hair loss. 3. Cause depression: There is a close connection between insomnia and depression. Many patients with depression have experienced insomnia, and long-term insomnia may also cause depression. 4. Causes sleep apnea syndrome: Sleep apnea syndrome is a manifestation of sleep disorder and is closely related to frequent insomnia. 5. Formation of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases: People who often suffer from insomnia are prone to obvious vascular hardening and narrowing of the caliber, which will seriously affect their own blood supply, causing dysfunction of various organs and even causing diseases such as stroke and heart disease.

6. Cancer comes quietly: Although there is no medical evidence that insomnia can cause cancer, experts believe that frequent insomnia is likely to be a major cause of cancer, so good sleep is an important magic weapon to reduce the incidence of cancer and defeat cancer.
