The RH negative gene is a recessive gene. When both RH positive parents carry the RH negative gene and pass it on to their offspring at the same time, their offspring will be RH negative. When one of the parents is RH negative, the chances of their offspring being RH negative greatly increase.

There are many people like this, where neither of their parents are RH negative, but they themselves are. This means that your parents have the recessive gene for RH negative blood. And at least one person has it. It also means that your grandparents or someone in your previous generation had RH negative blood type.

Therefore, this also explains why some friends have one of their parents with RH negative blood, but they do not. Although you do not have the RH negative blood type, you have the recessive gene for RH negative blood. Once you meet a partner who also has the recessive gene for RH negative blood, your offspring will have RH negative blood. If this generation doesn’t meet it, it will pass on until another generation meets it.

How to Prevent Rh-Negative Blood Everyone has a blood type. The most commonly used blood type classification method is the ABO classification system invented by Karl Landsteiner in the early 1920s, which includes four blood types: A, B, AB, and O. In addition to the most popular ABO blood type, the RH blood type system is the most widely used and most important blood type in clinical practice. The particularity of RH negative blood also determines its danger. So how to prevent Rh negative blood?

To prevent RH hemolytic disease, all children born to women with RH negative blood should have an RH blood type test at birth. All Rh-negative mothers who are pregnant with Rh-positive children should be given a mixed blood Rh immune globulin injection 72 hours after delivery, which can prevent more than 95% of sensitization in Rh-negative women.

However, some studies have shown that about 2% of pregnant women have sensitization before giving birth. Therefore, in order to prevent early sensitization, RH immunoglobulin can be injected into pregnant women at 28 weeks of pregnancy and after delivery.

Women with RH negative blood type should be injected with RH immune globulin after spontaneous abortion, ectopic pregnancy, artificial abortion or transfusion of RH positive blood. In addition, RH immune globulin soap should be injected after amniocentesis and fetal chorionic villus sampling.
