Is moxibustion useful for cervical spondylosis?

Acupuncture is a commonly used method for treating cervical spondylosis. We know that acupuncture is a relatively traditional treatment method in my country. It can play a good effect in promoting blood circulation, relieving pain, and unblocking meridians. Cervical spondylosis often causes poor blood circulation, causing patients to experience brain hypoxia, causing symptoms such as dizziness. At this time, acupuncture treatment can relieve pain, relieve swelling, and prevent patients from experiencing symptoms of dizziness.

Is moxibustion useful for cervical spondylosis?

Cervical spondylosis, also known as cervical spondylosis, refers to the compression of nerve roots, spinal cord or blood vessels by cervical vertebrae bone and joint lesions (such as hypertrophic cervical spondylitis, cervical disc herniation, etc.), resulting in corresponding clinical symptoms. The nerve root type is the most common. It manifests as partial or complete sensory and motor dysfunction in unilateral or bilateral upper limbs, muscular dystrophy, and comprehensive symptoms that are obvious in the distal extremities. It is a common and frequently occurring disease among middle-aged and elderly people.

The causes of this disease can be summarized as: external causes, that is, various chronic injuries causing varying degrees of damage to the cervical spine and its surrounding tissues; internal causes, that is, the degeneration of the cervical spine itself. This disease belongs to the category of "arthralgia" and "spasticity" in traditional Chinese medicine. It is mostly due to exogenous wind, cold and dampness, which lead to damage of the Du channel, stagnation of Qi and blood, obstruction of meridians, or deficiency of Qi and blood.

Experts say that moxibustion can cure cervical spondylosis. Moxibustion is a method of treating diseases by burning moxa or other substances and then fumigating certain parts of the skin. The warming effect of moxibustion can promote local qi and blood circulation, remove dampness and cold, dredge meridians, and warm yang and replenish the middle.

Moxibustion is particularly effective in treating headaches, neck pain, shoulder and back pain, and upper limb pain caused by cervical spondylosis, and can be used to treat various types of cervical spondylosis. In clinical practice, one or several groups of acupoints can be selected for alternating use according to the needs of acupoint selection. Let’s take a look at how moxibustion can treat cervical spondylosis.

Moxibustion for treating cervical spondylosis

1. Acupoints: cervical vertebrae, Fengchi, Dazhui and Ahshi points. 2. Moxibustion method 1: Moxibustion with moxa sticks and ginger. Use a moxa stick the size of a soybean to moxibustion each acupoint for 5 to 7 minutes, once a day. One course of treatment is 7 days. 3. Moxibustion method 2: You can use moxa sticks for gentle moxibustion, moxibustion each acupoint for 5 to 10 minutes each time, once a day, and 10 days as a course of treatment. 4. Moxibustion method three: Moxibustion with a warm moxa device. Light the moxa and iron it back and forth on the neck until the moxibustion site turns red. Do this 1 to 2 times a day, each time for about 30 minutes. One course of treatment is 7 days. 5. Moxibustion method 4: Aim the burning moxa stick at the selected acupuncture point like a bird pecking at food, and apply moxibustion in a moving manner. Apply moxibustion 100 times to each acupoint in a bird-pecking manner, once a day, and one course of treatment is 15 days.
