How to reduce swelling and relieve pain in a broken hand

Hand fracture is a common occurrence in our daily lives. Many friends often break their hands because of their carelessness. Therefore, we need to master some knowledge about fractures so that when fractures occur in ourselves or others, we know how to respond in a timely manner to avoid more serious fractures. For example, if you have a broken hand, how to reduce swelling and relieve pain, we need to know the following treatment measures.

1. Immediately apply the brakes to reduce swelling, relieve pain and prevent the spread of infection.

Immediately after a fracture, check whether there is any serious problem. If not, the injured part should be immobilized to avoid accelerating congestion and swelling of the injured part. Then apply a towel soaked in cold water or ice to the fracture site, apply cold compress every three to four hours, each time for 20 to 30 minutes, or use drug therapy: mix raw gardenia and flour with egg white, apply wet compress to the swollen area, apply pressure bandage, and change it once a day.

Whether it is drug therapy or cold compress therapy, if used in the early stages of fracture, it can relieve pain and inhibit and reduce swelling. The operation method is relatively simple and it will no longer be used after two to three days of fracture treatment. It is particularly important to always observe the color of the skin at the sprained area when applying cold compress. If the skin turns purple or blue and feels numb, it indicates venous blood stasis and the cold compress must be stopped immediately. Otherwise, it will hinder the supply of nutrients and oxygen, reduce the resistance of cells, and cause tissue necrosis in severe cases.

2. Improve blood circulation in the injured area, reduce inflammation and swelling, and accelerate the removal of blood stasis.

After two to three days of wet or cold compresses with medication, the fractured blood vessel wound has coagulated. At this time, in order to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis and prevent the wound from adhesion, hot compresses can be used as the main method for treatment. When applying hot compress, soak the towel in 40 to 50 degree warm water for a while, and apply it to the fracture site while it is still hot (do not burn it), once every 3 to 4 hours, each time for 15 to 20 minutes. During the hot compress period, Chinese herbal medicine, cupping, massage and other methods are used in combination with treatment, especially massage is extremely important during this period. However, the massage technique should be from light to heavy, from the area around the injury to the local area. The first few massages on the injured area must be gentle.

3. Soften or separate possible adhesions to promote the recovery of fracture site function.

When the swelling and tenderness of the injured area have disappeared, but slight pain is still felt during exercise and the joints are weak, exercises can be performed to strengthen the muscles and move the joints at the fractured area. The methods generally used include: various rehabilitation medical gymnastics such as joint rotation and flexion and extension, and various gentle body activities with strong targeting, so as not to cause tingling and slight swelling in the injured area. The amount of exercise should be gradual, especially the first few times of exercise should not be too much.
