The capitula is solitary at the end of the stem, with a diameter of up to 35 cm; the bracts are ovate or ovate-lanceolate, with a caudate-acuminate tip and covered with long hard bristles; the female flowers are ligulate, golden yellow, and not fruiting; the bisexual flowers are tubular, with brown or purple corollas and are fruiting; the receptacle is flat; and the receptacles are membranous. Achenes are obovate or ovate-oblong, slightly flat, light gray or black; pappus has 2 scales and is awn-shaped. Fall off. Flowering period is from June to July.

The leaves are mostly wrinkled, and the complete leaves are broadly oval, 10-20 cm long, 8-25 cm wide, with acute or acuminate tips, serrated edges, and rough on both sides. Slight odor, light taste.

Pharmacological Action

1. Antibacterial effect: It has an antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus, but is ineffective against Escherichia coli; 2. Antimalarial effect: It can also be used as an antimalarial drug. A 0.2% concentration of alcohol extract can inhibit Paramecium in vitro. Although the effect is not significant, a small amount of alcohol extract can still have a synergistic effect with quinine.
