Is moderate fatty liver serious?

Moderate fatty liver is a type of fatty liver. We divide fatty liver into mild fatty liver, moderate fatty liver and severe fatty liver according to the severity of fatty liver. The occurrence of fatty liver brings serious physical harm to patients. Moderate fatty liver is a relatively easy to treat type of fatty liver, but we must prevent moderate fatty liver from deteriorating into severe fatty liver.

Many patients have a question, that is, how serious is moderate fatty liver? This question requires us to analyze it carefully. Only when we have a deep understanding of what moderate fatty liver is can we help us prevent and treat moderate fatty liver.

There are many symptoms of fatty liver, and the specific manifestations vary according to the severity of the disease. The symptoms of moderate fatty liver are as follows:

Mild to moderate fatty liver often has no symptoms, or may occasionally cause discomfort in the liver area, and liver function is only slightly abnormal, so it is difficult for people to pay attention and treatment is ignored. Moderate to severe fatty liver often has symptoms such as abdominal distension, fatigue, severe pain or tenderness in the right upper abdomen, fever, and leukocytosis. The symptoms of fatty liver are not as obvious as other diseases. We should pay more attention to it in our daily life. It is best to go to the hospital for a physical check-up every once in a while to achieve early detection and early treatment.

Moderate to severe fatty liver may cause symptoms such as loss of appetite, abdominal distension, fatigue, fever, nausea, vomiting, weight loss, tenderness or percussion pain in the right upper abdomen, etc. The liver may be mildly enlarged and tender, and a few patients may have splenomegaly and liver palms.

When there is too much fat deposited in the liver, the liver capsule may expand and the liver ligaments may be stretched, causing severe pain or tenderness in the right upper abdomen, percussion pain, fever, and leukocytosis. These symptoms are easily misdiagnosed as acute abdomen, so they should be differentiated from liver, gallbladder and gastric system diseases, such as acute hepatitis, chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, acute and chronic gastritis, etc. To make a clear diagnosis and provide timely symptomatic treatment.

1. Be sure to quit drinking and eat more vegetables and fruits.

2. Control energy intake: For patients with fatty liver, energy supply should not be too high. Patients with fatty liver who engage in light activities and whose weight is within the normal range should be supplied with 126 to 147 kJ (30 to 35 kcal) per kilogram per day to prevent weight gain and avoid increased fat accumulation. For obese or overweight people, the daily intake should be 84 to 105 kJ (20 to 25 kcal) per kilogram to control or reduce weight and strive to achieve an ideal or appropriate weight. Eat a balanced diet to prevent fatty liver, eat some whole grains, and avoid sweet foods.

3. In terms of diet, you can match the liver-protecting diet according to the color of the food. The three meals a day must be properly allocated to achieve a nutritional balance between coarse and fine foods. A sufficient amount of protein can clear the fat in the liver.

4. Use drugs with caution. The liver is the chemical factory of the human body. Any drug that enters the body must be detoxified by the liver. So don’t take medicine at every turn. For patients with symptomatic fatty liver, they must be more cautious when choosing medications to guard against drug toxicity and side effects. In particular, medications that are harmful to the liver must not be used to avoid further aggravating liver damage.

5. Control carbohydrates: A low-carbohydrate diet should be consumed, and foods rich in monosaccharides and disaccharides, such as high-sugar cakes, ice cream, dried dates, and candies, should be avoided to promote the elimination of intrahepatic fat. However, excessive carbohydrate restriction can reduce the body's sensitivity to insulin. It is advisable that carbohydrates account for about 60% of total energy per day.

6. Supplement sufficient dietary fiber: Dietary fiber can slow down gastric emptying time, reduce the intake and absorption of fat and sugar, and has the effect of lowering blood lipids and blood sugar.

7. Supplement sufficient vitamins, minerals and trace elements: The liver stores a variety of vitamins.

Above we introduced what moderate fatty liver is. We know that moderate fatty liver is a type of fatty liver. We must do a good job in preventing and treating moderate fatty liver. In fact, moderate fatty liver does not cause much harm to our body, so as long as we know how to control it, we can avoid the deterioration of moderate fatty liver.
