In fact, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention clearly stated in the "Technical Guidelines for Rabies Prevention and Control (2016 Edition)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Guidelines") that rabies post-exposure prevention and treatment should begin immediately. Given that my country is a country with a high risk of rabies and the vaccination rates of cats, dogs, etc. are generally low, the injured should be immediately vaccinated against rabies after ensuring that they have received proper wound treatment. If you are bitten or scratched by a cat or dog, don't take chances and go to the hospital for treatment immediately.

In addition, the "Second Report of the World Health Organization Expert Consultation on Rabies" also pointed out that the factors that should be considered in deciding whether to conduct post-exposure prophylaxis include the epidemiological possibility of rabies in the animals involved, the severity of exposure), the clinical characteristics of the animals and their vaccination status (especially dogs and cats) and the feasibility of observation and laboratory testing. All exposures identified as presenting a risk of rabies require postexposure prophylaxis.
