Can low platelet count in children be cured?

Some children have symptoms of low platelet count. If the child continues to show symptoms of low platelet count, it will have a great impact on the child's health and may even pose a great threat to the child's life safety. There are many reasons for low platelet count, and different diseases will have different harmfulness. For example, purpura can cause low platelet count. When low platelet count occurs, symptomatic treatment should be carried out in a timely manner, and health care should be strengthened in daily life.

Can low platelet count in children be cured?

1. Treatment of purpura caused by low platelet count in children

First of all, if a child has thrombocytopenia, we must first see to what extent the reduction has occurred. If it is only a slight reduction and the total number is above 80, this is generally not a problem and will slowly recover. However, if the thrombocytopenia is severe and bleeding spots appear all over the body, this is thrombocytopenic purpura, which is more troublesome and requires hospitalization in the hospital, and the use of immunoglobulin and hormones must be used during the treatment. Or, syndrome differentiation and treatment can be carried out according to blood syndrome. The main pathogenesis is heat, deficiency and stasis. The treatment should focus on clearing heat, cooling blood, stopping bleeding, replenishing qi and yin, and promoting blood circulation and removing stasis. At the same time, methods such as tonifying the liver and kidneys should be used to treat both the symptoms and the root cause.

2. Symptomatic treatment of low platelet count in children

Treatment of thrombocytopenia varies with its cause and severity; the cause must be rapidly identified and corrected if possible (eg, discontinuation of heparin in heparin-associated thrombocytopenia). Since repeated platelet transfusions will produce alloplatelet antibodies and reduce the efficacy, they should be used intermittently to prevent the production of these antibodies. If thrombocytopenia is due to platelet consumption, platelet transfusions should be reserved for treatment of life-threatening or central nervous system bleeding. If thrombocytopenia is caused by bone marrow failure, platelet transfusions are reserved for the treatment of acute bleeding or severe thrombocytopenia (eg, platelet count < 10,000/μl). Note: Treatment in children is the opposite of that in adults; the use of corticosteroids or Ivig can rapidly restore platelet counts but does not improve clinical outcomes. Because most children can recover spontaneously from severe thrombocytopenia within a few days or weeks, supportive therapy alone is sometimes recommended. Splenectomy should be postponed for at least 6 to 12 months in children with chronic ITP who are unresponsive to corticosteroids or Ivig. This is because children without spleen have an increased risk of serious infection. Even if the disease has lasted for years, most children can spontaneously resolve.

3. Dietary treatment for low platelet count in children

1. Peanut skins: Eating peanut skins regularly can increase platelet count and improve the quality of platelets. 2. Pig's feet and chicken's feet contain collagen, which can effectively coagulate platelets. 3. Golden jujubes Boiled or steamed golden jujubes can improve immunity, and can also increase the three major cells: white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets.
