Occasional pins-and-needles pain in the eyes

Many people often feel a pricking sensation in their eyes when they blink or close their eyes. In fact, this phenomenon is a common keratitis. During the course of corneal inflammation, some bacterial infections may occur. It feels like there is a foreign object in the eyes, which is always painful. In addition, the eyes feel dry and not moisturized when blinking.

Keratitis is a common ophthalmic disease, and many people may not know much about it.

Keratitis, commonly known as "black eye inflammation", is a general term for inflammation of the corneal tissue. Its typical symptoms include burning and stinging eyes, blurred vision, easy tearing, foreign body sensation and fear of light.

The cornea is located at the front end of the eyeball. It is transparent and avascular, and has very sensitive nerve endings. In addition to protecting the contents of the eye, it is also an important component of the eye's refractive system. Because the cornea has no blood vessels, it produces fewer antibodies, and anti-inflammatory cells such as white blood cells cannot easily enter the cornea, so infection is likely to occur once foreign matter invades.

Common causes of keratitis

There are external and internal causes of keratitis. Damage and shedding of corneal epithelial cells, combined with infection, can easily lead to infectious corneal ulcers. For example, if the cornea is traumatized, bacteria and viruses may invade the cornea and cause inflammation. The internal causes are systemic diseases such as rheumatism, diabetes, neurological diseases and other eye diseases that affect or cause corneal lesions.

How to prevent keratitis

1. Pay attention to eye hygiene and cleanliness, and treat eye diseases in time to prevent corneal involvement;

2. Protect your eyes, prevent traumatic keratitis, and avoid foreign objects scratching or piercing the cornea;

3. Avoid rubbing your eyes with your hands, especially for children. Due to their active nature, their hands are always dirty, which may bring some germs into the eyes and cause eye inflammation.

4. Eat more high-protein foods such as beans, lean meat, eggs, etc. Avoid fried, spicy and high-sugar foods;

5. Maintain a healthy schedule, increase physical exercise, eat in moderation, and avoid staying up late.
