How to relieve cesarean section uterine contraction pain

After a cesarean section, the mother will often experience paroxysmal severe pain during the recuperation period due to uterine contractions, which is quite harmful to the mother. If the mother is carrying multiple babies, the pain will be more obvious. First of all, this pain is generally a normal physiological phenomenon, so don't panic too much. At this time, you can relieve it by changing your sleeping position, massaging your lower abdomen, or applying hot compresses.

What to do if you have postpartum contractions

Generally speaking, postpartum uterine contraction pain will occur within 1-2 days after delivery and disappear naturally after 4-7 days. No special care is required. However, if the mother is in unbearable pain, she can also take the following measures to relieve the pain:

1. Change sleeping position: Let the mother sleep on her side and avoid standing or sitting for long periods of time to reduce pain in this area. It may also be helpful to put a cushion under the mother's buttocks when sitting.

2. Massage the lower abdomen: In the first few days after delivery, you or your family can use your palms to apply a little force to help the mother do circular massage until you feel the area harden, so as to promote the discharge of residual substances in the uterine cavity; when the pain is severe, massage can temporarily relax the uterine muscles and relieve pain.

3. Hot compress: Use a hot water bag to apply hot compress to the lower abdomen for half an hour each time. Be careful not to use too high a temperature to avoid burns.

4. Take painkillers: If the pain from uterine contractions affects your rest and sleep, you should notify your medical staff. If necessary, you can use mild sedatives to relieve the pain. It should be noted that you must follow the doctor's advice and never take medicine at random.

5. Traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture: Acupuncture at Zhongji, Guanyuan, Sanyinjiao, Zusanli and other acupoints can also relieve postpartum uterine contraction pain.

6. Psychological care: Use distraction, massage, and deep breathing to eliminate the mother’s nervousness and improve her tolerance to pain.

What to eat for postpartum uterine contraction pain

1. Soak brown sugar in water. Hawthorn soaked in brown sugar water or dried ginger powder mixed with brown sugar can also effectively relieve pain. Take 100 grams of hawthorn and an appropriate amount of brown sugar, decoct in water and drink the soup, 1 dose per day. Generally speaking, taking several doses in a row can relieve postpartum uterine contraction pain and eventually make it disappear.

2. Massage with ginger juice and rice wine. Ginger juice is warm in nature and has the effect of dispelling cold, while rice wine has the effect of relaxing muscles and activating blood circulation. Massaging your lower abdomen with ginger juice and rice wine can effectively relieve postpartum uterine contraction pain.

3. Salt and moxa. Usage: After the fetus is delivered, spread a layer of salt on the mother's navel, rub the moxa into a moxa cone as big as a mung bean, place it in the center of the salt, and moxibustion 3-7 times. Grind equal amounts of Citrus aurantium, raw white peony root, cinnamon bark and raw licorice into powder, bottle and set aside. Usage: Take 30 grams of the powder each time, mix it with vinegar to make a paste, apply it to the navel, fix it with the conventional method, and apply hot compress with a hot water bag.

How to prevent postpartum uterine contractions

Uterine contractions are mostly physiological phenomena. If the frequency is within the normal range, there is no problem. However, if the frequency is too high and there is no relief after more than an hour, you need to start from your daily life to prevent the occurrence of uterine contractions.

1. Don't walk too much or lift heavy objects. Lifting heavy objects can cause strain on the abdomen and easily lead to uterine contractions.

2. When you feel tired, lying down and resting and keeping quiet will be very effective.

3. Don’t accumulate stress. Mental fatigue, like physical fatigue, can lead to various problems. The accumulated stress can also easily cause the abdomen to become hard. It is best to relax both physically and mentally.

4. Prevent catching cold. Air conditioning makes the lower limbs and waist too cold, which can easily cause uterine contractions. It is also important to wear socks and cover yourself with a blanket to prevent catching a cold.
