What causes vomiting in newborns? How to care for newborn vomiting?

The baby’s health is every parent’s greatest wish, so what causes newborn vomiting? How to care for a newborn baby who vomits?

1. Causes of milk spillage

1. The gastrointestinal structure of the newborn is determined by: the newborn's stomach is in a horizontal position and cannot hold too much food; the cardia is relaxed and can be easily opened by the gastric contents, causing the gastric contents to reflux into the esophagus; the pyloric muscles are well developed and are prone to contraction and spasm when stimulated by the gastric contents, causing food to reflux. Due to the above reasons, vomiting is likely to occur when the baby sucks too quickly and inhales air.

2. Improper feeding: feeding too much, exceeding the baby's stomach capacity; eating too quickly; the milk temperature is not suitable, which increases gastric motility, all of which can lead to vomiting. This type of vomiting often occurs accidentally and the amount of vomiting is large.

3. The amniotic fluid is causing trouble: If the vomit is foamy yellow mucus, or coffee-colored liquid (containing blood), the main reason is that the baby inhaled too much amniotic fluid in the uterus. This situation usually occurs within 1-2 days after birth.

4. Pyloric hypertrophy and stenosis: Due to the abnormal thickening, hypertrophy and edema of the pyloric muscles, the "gateway" leading to the intestines can only be opened very small, so that the food in the stomach cannot enter the intestines smoothly. The stomach wall muscles contract strongly, that is, the resistance of milk to enter the intestines is very large, so it flows back from the mouth.

2. Nursing of newborn vomiting

1. It is recommended to hold the baby while breastfeeding. If breastfeeding in a lying position is necessary, the head should be high and the feet should be low.

For breastfed babies, clean the nipples with warm water before each feeding, and hold up the breast with four fingers, with the thumb placed on the areola of the nipple to slow down the flow of milk. For bottle-feeding mothers, wash the feeding utensils with boiling water before each feeding, and breastfeed after the nipples are filled with milk. The nipple hole should not be too large. After breastfeeding, hold the baby upright and pat his back to expel the swallowed air. It is not advisable to lift the lower limbs to change diapers within a short period of time after breastfeeding.

2. For infants and young children who vomit frequently, if organic diseases and gastrointestinal inflammation are ruled out, most of the cases are gastroesophageal reflux.

You can choose the lateral position with the head high and feet low, with the head raised 15°. For children with gastroesophageal reflux, the head can be placed in the prone position, for 20 minutes each time, 2-4 times a day.

3. Recurrent vomiting and nervous vomiting.

Caregivers should arrange the baby's life reasonably, including diet system, strengthening physical exercise and increasing physiological sleep time. Keep the environment clean, deal with the baby's vomit in time, and replace contaminated clothes, sheets, and quilts in time to avoid further irritation to the child.

4. For children who are prone to vomiting, especially those who vomit after a cold or cough.

You should strengthen nutrition and physical exercise to improve the body's immunity, or give your baby bovine colostrum and transfer factor to prevent colds. Eat at regular times and in regular amounts, and don't eat too much.

5. Babies are prone to vomiting when taking medicine.

When feeding the medicine solution, the solution should not be too hot or too cold; difficult to feed vomiting is a symptom of reverse peristalsis of the esophagus, stomach and intestine caused by various reasons, accompanied by strong spasm and contraction of the abdominal muscles and diaphragm, forcing the contents of the esophagus and gastrointestinal tract to pour out of the mouth.
