What is the cause of eye pain?

Eye pain is a very common symptom. Since it causes pain, patients need to receive timely treatment, otherwise the condition will only get worse. The most important principle in treating a disease is to prescribe the right medicine for the right disease, so before treating the symptoms of eye pain, you need to find the cause of the eye pain first. Generally speaking, the main causes of eye pain are: ophthalmic diseases, eye trauma, foreign body irritation, nervous system diseases, drug poisoning, etc.

1. Eye diseases

The most common disease causing eye pain is inflammatory stimulation. Since our eyes are often open, when the body's immunity decreases, external bacteria or viruses can easily enter our eyes, causing eye inflammation and pain. Glaucoma caused by increased intraocular pressure can also cause severe eye pain. In addition, when an eye tumor presses on the eyeball, eye pain will also occur, and this pain is often persistent.

2. Eye Trauma

Although the eyeballs are protected by eyelids, we have to keep our eyes open to see things during the day. Therefore, when danger strikes, the eyes are very likely to be the first to be hit. When an eye is injured, there is usually severe pain in the eye, accompanied by bleeding, blurred vision, or protective closure of the eye.

3. Foreign body stimulation

The sensory system of the eyes is very sensitive. As the saying goes, "You can't tolerate any sand in your eyes," this describes the eyes' low tolerance to foreign objects.

4. Nervous System Diseases

The sensation of the eye is innervated by the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve (ophthalmic nerve). Therefore, when trigeminal neuralgia occurs, it is also accompanied by eye pain.

5. Drug poisoning

The eyes are rich in blood vessels and have an adequate blood supply. When some drugs are used in excess and lead to poisoning, it is very easy to cause eye discomfort and even become the earliest sign of drug poisoning. Aminopyrine is a commonly used antipyretic drug. When it is overdose, it will cause binocular vision impairment, severe eye pain, red and swollen eyelids, difficulty closing the eyelids, small red drug rashes on the skin; conjunctival congestion, herpetic conjunctivitis; corneal infiltration and turbidity, corneal epithelial detachment in the form of small bubbles; dilated pupils, and optic nerve atrophy can be seen in the fundus.

6. Eye care methods

1. Eye movement: It actually means rotating the eyeballs, from top to bottom, and then left to right. Relax your eyes for 2 minutes every time you work for 1 hour, and rotating your eyes can greatly relieve computer eye fatigue.

2. Blink: After working for 1 hour, tilt your head back and blink continuously. This can keep the blood flowing. When your eyes are slightly swollen and painful, just blinking 2-3 times every hour can provide relief.

3. Steaming eyes: Make a small cup of tea with boiling water. While it is still hot, put your hands around the teacup, open your eyes wide and put your face on your hands. Let the hot tea steam your eyes, and alternate between the left and right eyes. The best type of tea is chrysanthemum and wolfberry tea, and avoid drinking drinks such as coffee.

4. Food nutrition method: The family recipe should be mainly composed of vegetables and fruits, which can help relieve eye swelling and pain and prevent long-term eye diseases.
