Will a cold reduce milk supply?

The baby's immune system is not fully developed, and some of the antibodies that can resist are passed on to the baby through breast milk. Therefore, for breastfeeding mothers, their living habits and emotional changes will not only affect their own physical condition, but may also affect the milk that will be fed to the baby. If a breastfeeding mother catches a cold, what impact will it have on her milk? What other precautions should be taken?

Will catching a cold during breastfeeding lead to less milk? Relevant people said that generally it will not have an impact, but mothers should pay attention to whether they have multiple symptoms, as this will easily pass the infectious virus to the baby, which is not good and will affect the baby's growth.

Will I have less milk if I catch a cold while breastfeeding?

It is generally believed that a cold during breastfeeding will not affect milk. A cold often causes symptoms such as cough, sputum, nasal congestion, and runny nose. It is contagious to a certain extent. When breastfeeding with a cold, you should not face the baby and pay attention to protect the baby. At this time, the baby's resistance is relatively low, so avoid infection. The diet and daily life of the nursing mother should be arranged properly, her temperament should be kept good, she should not overwork, and she should get enough sleep; the diet should be nutritious, and she should drink more chicken soup, fish soup, and pork ribs.

Breastfeeding is now advocated by most people, so if the mother does not have a fever or bacterial infection, she can consider continuing breastfeeding. Of course, there are certain precautions when breastfeeding, because the mother may transmit diseases to the baby through the respiratory tract, and even the mother's eye secretions, nasal secretions, and saliva may contain bacteria that can be transmitted to the baby. So in this case, the mother should wear a mask, wash her hands frequently, change clothes frequently, keep herself clean, and keep a certain distance from the baby except when breastfeeding. Once the mother has symptoms of fever, she should stop breastfeeding the baby, but can feed some juice. Those who cannot drink fruit juice yet can drink some rice soup.

If your baby sweats a lot, you can consider giving him some salty rice soup or fruit juice. There is absolutely no need for mothers and babies to feed too much food. Just control the feeding appropriately. But replenishing water is a must. If the baby does not eat much in a short period of one or two days, it will not cause much impact on the baby's body, and the mother does not need to be overly anxious. If the baby is unwilling to eat for a long time, it should not be taken lightly and must be admitted to the hospital for treatment in time.

Foods that cannot be eaten during breastfeeding

1. You cannot eat spicy food during breastfeeding, because spicy food will enter the baby's body through breast milk and affect the baby's health. But it is okay to eat a small amount of condiments, such as pepper, vinegar, etc.

2. Do not eat chocolate during breastfeeding, because the cocoa alkali contained in chocolate will seep into breast milk and accumulate in the baby's body. Theobromine can damage the nervous system and heart, relax muscles, increase urination, and cause indigestion and unstable sleep for the baby. Eating too much chocolate will affect the appetite of postpartum women and make them fat.

3. During breastfeeding, you should not eat foods that may inhibit milk secretion: such as leeks, malt water, ginseng and other foods.

4. You cannot eat pickled fish or meat during breastfeeding. The average daily salt intake for adults is 4.5 to 9 grams. According to your usual habits, do not avoid salt, but do not eat too salty food. If a nursing mother consumes too much salt, it will increase the burden on the kidneys, which is not good for the kidneys and will also increase blood pressure.

5. Do not eat fried food during breastfeeding. Because fried food is difficult to digest, the digestive power of mothers is weak, and the nutrients in fried food are lost a lot during the frying process. Eating it is not good for the mother's health recovery.
