How many months does the baby's eyes follow objects?

Normal babies can open their eyes one week after birth, but their eyesight is still relatively weak and they can only see objects at close range. Babies seem to like curved objects, the shape of human faces, and objects with bright colors. The visual distance of a newborn is about 20-50 cm. Babies around 2 months old will have a more sensitive visual perception of external objects. Their eyes can follow light and the amplitude of eye movement will further increase.

1. Judging whether your baby's eyes follow objects

1. At birth, newborns are able to actively scan and focus on a stimulus. They seem to prefer curves to straight lines, objects with clear contrast, and human faces to non-human faces. The visual acuity of an adult is 20/20, that of a newborn is 20/200, the visual distance of a newborn is 20-50cm, and the human face is about 20-38cm. Newborns have basic gaze tracking.

2. Within 0 to 2 months after birth: The baby's visual function is weak when it is just born, and it mainly perceives the mother's presence through smell and blurred vision. In the first few days, his eye movements were aimless. After a few days, he began to stare at the light. Strong light stimulation could cause him to close his eyes. He would stare at the person holding him, but it could not last too long.

3. After the baby is 2-3 months old: the visual acuity is about 0.01~0.02, and there is some visual perception of external objects. The baby can chase light, has good eye movement, can follow larger objects, and the head will turn accordingly. The baby likes bright colors, especially red.

2. How to improve your baby's tracking ability through games

1. Place a brightly colored object in front of the baby, such as his favorite food or toy. You can choose a suitable object according to the baby's ability. For example, a small baby can choose a larger toy. Parents move the object from the center line to the left and right in front of the baby to attract the child's attention and observe whether the baby is looking at the moving object. You can also use moving toys, place them on a mat or table, and move them from one side to the other to encourage your baby to follow faster-moving objects.

2. Show your baby objects that can roll up and down, such as a small ball in a tube or marbles in a bottle. Move them up and down in front of your baby and let him follow the moving object. You can choose the speed of the ball according to the baby's ability. Or you can choose a luminous flashlight, but be careful not to make the light too strong. You can stick different colored papers inside the flashlight to emit different lights, and circle it in front of the baby to let him follow it. Adjust the speed and range of the circle according to the baby's situation.

3. Choose two objects that the baby is interested in, which can be objects that make sounds or have bright lights. Put one of them in front of the baby and let him look at it. Then put the other one in front of the baby, and make sure there is a certain distance between the two objects. Then take away the first one and let him pay attention to the second one. Then take away the second one and let him look at the first one again. Observe the baby's ability to track the two objects. Alternatively, you can exchange the positions of the two objects and use sounds or lights to attract the baby's attention so that he can look at them alternately.
