Who is suitable for CyberKnife treatment?

With the development of medical technology, many diseases can be well treated. CyberKnife is a radiosurgery device that has appeared in recent years and can mainly treat some tumor diseases. This is a very good thing for some cancer patients. But not everyone is suitable for CyberKnife treatment. So, who is suitable for CyberKnife treatment? Find out!

At present, the most advanced radiosurgery equipment in the world is the CyberKnife, which can treat tumors in all parts of the body. It only takes 3 to 5 irradiations to kill tumor tissue. It is the only whole-body radiosurgery that combines the advantages of "no wounds, no pain, no bleeding, no anesthesia, and short recovery period", and is known as the "tumor killer".

CyberKnife is a small accelerator with a robotic arm. Its most important feature is image tracking. It can move with the lesion, focus on the tumor from different angles, and increase the dose for precise irradiation. Compared with traditional radiotherapy methods, CyberKnife has accurate positioning, precise placement and precise treatment. It can design a treatment plan that completely matches the tumor morphology, causes little damage to surrounding normal tissues, and greatly reduces radiotherapy time. Under the same circumstances, conventional radiotherapy requires 25 to 30 irradiations and takes 4 to 6 weeks, while CyberKnife irradiations can complete the treatment with 3 to 5 times.

The application of CyberKnife has become very mature abroad and has become a treatment method on par with surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. It has been certified by many medical authorities around the world. But for our country, it is still a relatively new treatment method that needs further promotion and application.

There are many treatments for liver cancer, mainly surgery, radiotherapy and intervention. Different treatments are chosen for different situations, and it is very necessary for patients to have some knowledge in this regard.

Radiotherapy for liver cancer is a common treatment method, but it is not suitable for all liver cancer patients. Which groups of people are suitable for radiotherapy for liver cancer?

A. For patients who cannot undergo radical treatment such as surgical resection or local radiofrequency ablation, if the tumor is localized, especially liver cancer located in the hilar area, local radiotherapy may be considered.

B. Patients who have undergone hepatic artery embolization chemotherapy but whose tumors cannot be completely embolized due to blood supply problems and are still alive, and are not suitable for surgical resection or local ablation therapy, may consider local radiotherapy depending on their condition.

C. If the lesions in the liver are well controlled but the portal vein cancer thrombus or the inferior vena cava cancer thrombus cannot be controlled, local radiotherapy can be performed to target the cancer thrombus.

D. For patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and abdominal lymph node metastasis, radiotherapy can significantly improve lymph node compression symptoms, such as obstructive jaundice, back pain, etc., and prolong survival.

E. For patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and bone metastasis, the goal of radiotherapy is to relieve pain and reduce the chance of pathological fractures (especially paraplegia), thereby improving the patient's quality of life, but there is no evidence that it can prolong the patient's survival.

Radiotherapy technology is developing rapidly, and there are many devices that can treat liver cancer. Such as Tomo, RapidArc, Gamma Knife, etc. Each device has its own advantages. You can refer to the doctor's opinion when choosing.
