What to do with the wound after cesarean section

What to do with the wound after cesarean section

Many women need to stay in confinement after giving birth. During this period, women are forbidden to wash their hair or take a bath, especially in the hot summer when the weather is extremely hot. They are not allowed to engage in these activities because these activities are particularly harmful to the body. However, there are always some women who can't stand the hot weather and want to take a bath. So what should women do with the wound when they take a bath after a caesarean section?

Generally, new mothers can take a bath 15 days after a caesarean section, and can take a bath after a week if they have recovered well. (If the wound has scarred and is not dry, do not get it wet or take a bath). Although you should try not to get the wound wet, the wound has almost recovered at this point. When taking a shower, just put a Band-Aid on it, or even better, use a special waterproof patch for bathing wounds, and then rinse it in a shower (not a tub bath). Remove the Band-Aid immediately after rinsing, rinse the wound with saline, and apply iodine to sterilize. However, the bathing time should not be too long. Keep your body temperature. After bathing, wipe off the water in time and put on clothes before coming out.

Generally speaking, there is no need to take special care of the wound when taking a bath during the confinement period, because the wound has basically healed after leaving the hospital, but it has not yet fully recovered. Just don't rub and clean the wound when taking a bath.

1. General inflammation

If the incision becomes infected after taking a shower after a cesarean section, and if it is just a general inflammation, you only need to rinse the wound with saline solution in time, remove foreign objects that contaminate the wound, and then wipe the wound with iodine tincture.

Note: It is strictly forbidden to use irritating external disinfectants such as hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, iodine, etc. to avoid damaging fresh granulation tissue and forming necrotic tissue.

2. Moderate to severe inflammation

If the incision is infected during bathing after cesarean section, and if the foreign body is not cleaned in time, symptoms such as scabs and pus discharge will appear. At this time, the inflammation will worsen. If it is not treated in time, yellow-white necrotic tissue may appear in the wound. At this time, it is best to seek medical attention in time and treat the inflammation in time to avoid re-infection of the wound.

How long does it take for the cesarean section wound to touch water?

It is recommended to wait at least 2 weeks before touching water. Because the stitches for cesarean section wounds are usually removed 7-10 days after the operation, if the incision is exposed to water before removal, it is easy to cause incision infection. Even after the stitches are removed, it will take several days for the stitches to heal. Therefore, it is recommended to wait 2 weeks after the operation before contacting water. Of course, it can also be determined according to the healing condition of your wound.

Precautions for bathing after cesarean section

1. Bathing method: Those who have undergone caesarean section should wait until their physical strength is restored and their wounds are healed before taking a shower. Generally, they can take a sponge bath first. Don't take a tub bath.

2. Room temperature and water temperature: Pay attention to "protecting against cold in winter, heat in summer, and wind in spring and autumn". It should be 36-38 degrees in winter and around 37 degrees in summer. Don't be too cool in the summer, and don't be too hot in the winter.

3. Do not sweat profusely while taking a bath. After taking a bath, you should dry your body and hair in time. It is best to wrap your hair with a dry towel. Even if you feel hot all over after bathing, you should not expose yourself to drafts or turn on the air conditioner.

4. If your hair is not dry after taking a bath, do not braid it and do not sleep with wet hair.

5. It is not advisable to take a bath immediately when you are hungry or full. If you feel hungry after taking a shower, eat something.

6. When showering after a caesarean section, the mother can use shower gel, but she must be careful to use mild, non-irritating shower gel products.
