What does left anterior fascicular block mean and is it serious?

Left anterior fascicular block is a common cardiovascular disease that causes great harm to patients. This disease is mainly caused by ischemic damage. When treating it, we must prescribe the right medicine according to the cause.

1. Left anterior fascicular block is also called left anterior hemiblock. The left anterior branch is a thinner branch of the left bundle branch. It is located superficially on the ventricular septum and is prone to ischemic damage.

2. Left anterior fascicular block The left anterior fascicle is a relatively long and slender branch of the left bundle branch, which is located superficially on the ventricular septum and is prone to ischemic damage. It is most commonly seen in coronary heart disease, accounting for about 75%. In a group of autopsy materials of 353 cases with significant left axis deviation before death, 85% of them were found to have coronary heart disease. Some people believe that in middle-aged and elderly people over 50 years old, if left anterior fascicular block occurs, the possibility of coronary heart disease should be considered and they should be followed up. Some people will develop diagnostic indications for coronary heart disease within 1 to 2 years.

3. It is also the most common single-branch block in acute myocardial infarction, mostly occurring in anterior or anterior septal myocardial infarction, with an incidence of 24.2% in anterior wall infarction and 16.5% in inferior wall infarction. The mechanism of occurrence may be functional block around the infarction or conduction delay in the ventricular wall distal to the connection between the Purkinje fibers and the myocardium, or longitudinal separation of the His bundle, causing abnormal patterns of ventricular wall excitation and resulting in left anterior branch block without anatomical lesions.

4. In addition, part of the left anterior branch receives blood supply from the atrioventricular node branch of the right coronary artery or the left circumflex branch of the coronary artery, so left anterior branch block is not necessarily a sign of obstruction of the anterior descending coronary artery or extensive infarction lesions.
