When to perform laryngoscopy

When to perform laryngoscopy

The quality of life has greatly improved now, so more people have their own pursuit of health, and having a healthy body is what everyone wants to see, but the occurrence of disease is not controlled by oneself. What I want to talk about today is the problem of throat. With the development of society, the number of people with problems in the throat is also increasing. For the special part of the throat, the most effective examination is laryngoscopy. Let’s take a look at the circumstances under which laryngoscopy is performed.

What symptoms require laryngoscopy?

1. If you have throat discomfort, inflammation, difficulty swallowing, or hoarseness, you should undergo a laryngoscopy.

2. It is generally used for local lesions that cannot be clearly identified by indirect laryngoscopy. Or the epiglottis may be short and tilted backward in an infantile shape, making it difficult to lift; or the child may be uncooperative during indirect laryngoscopy; or there may be lesions in the subglottic area, pyriform sinus, post-cricoid space, etc. that are difficult to detect with indirect laryngoscopy.

What are the precautions for laryngoscopy?

1. You should fast for 4 to 6 hours before the examination. Basic examinations and tests should be completed before laryngoscopy. Before the examination, you should calm down and avoid being nervous to avoid failure of the examination.

2. Do not eat within 2 hours after the operation to avoid food choking into the trachea. It is better to eat light food and eat less stimulating food.

3. Do not smoke or drink after surgery, as smoking and drinking will affect recovery.

First of all, when you have throat discomfort, don’t do a laryngoscopy immediately out of worry. It is best to listen to the doctor’s advice. Secondly, patients can rest assured that the technology of electronic laryngoscope for medical examinations has reached a fairly mature stage, and the pain has been greatly reduced compared to traditional laryngoscopes in the past. The electronic laryngoscope is light, flexible, and slender, and has excellent insertability. It can enter the laryngeal cavity and more easily approach the diseased area, allowing for rapid treatment. Therefore, there is no need to be afraid or worried even when it is absolutely necessary.
