What is endoscopy

What is endoscopy

With the development of modern medical technology, most of the diseases of the body can be effectively treated. However, for those invisible illnesses, such as problems with the internal organs or lesions, endoscopy becomes the doctor's eyes and hands. It can examine many diseases and see the lesion site more clearly. In addition, many doctors also use endoscopic examination for treatment. Now let me tell you what endoscopy is.

The types of endoscopy for the digestive system currently include:

① Electronic gastroscope capable of completing examination and treatment of the throat, esophagus, stomach and duodenum;

② An electronic colonoscope that can complete the examination and treatment of the entire large intestine and 20 cm of the terminal ileum;

③ Choledochoscopy and endoscopic retrograde pancreatobiliary and cholangiography (ERCP) for the special examination and treatment of diseases of the duodenal papilla, bile duct and pancreatic duct;

④ Capsule endoscopy and small enteroscopy for the diagnosis of small intestinal diseases;

⑤ Small probe endoscopy that can measure the depth of lesions and endoscopic ultrasound that combines the examination and treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract itself and nearby organs such as the pancreas;

⑥ Laparoscopy that can perform direct inspection and surgical treatment of abdominal organs;

⑦ Chromoendoscopy, magnifying endoscopy, confocal endoscopy, and the combination of narrow-band imaging technology and magnifying endoscopy for early diagnosis of gastrointestinal tumors.

There are many organs in the digestive system and many types of diseases. So, what kind of discomfort requires an endoscopic examination? First of all, it should be said that anyone who has no contraindications to endoscopic examination can undergo an endoscopic examination. If there are digestive system symptoms such as decreased appetite, difficulty swallowing, chest pain when swallowing, belching, acid reflux, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, hematemesis, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, diarrhea, black stools, constipation, deformed stools, bloody stools, alternating dry and loose stools, difficulty defecation, weight loss, abdominal masses, etc., you should do the corresponding examination in time.
