Vaginoscopy

Vaginoscopy

In recent years, women have paid much more attention to their physical health. Not only do people pay more attention to taking care of themselves, but they also care more about their physical health. Therefore, physical examinations for female friends have become more common. Among these many examination items, colposcopy is one of them. It is an effective means to help doctors determine whether there are problems with women's cervix or vagina. Let's take a look at what colposcopy is.

A colposcope is a non-invasive endoscope that can magnify tissues in the vulva, vagina, cervix, etc. by 40 times, so as to detect subtle lesions that are difficult to identify with the naked eye at an early stage. During a vaginal speculum examination, your doctor will insert a lubricated duckbill-shaped speculum into your vagina and then open it to stretch the vaginal walls, which are usually stuck together, to see if there are any visible lesions in your vagina and cervix. Take deep breaths during insertion and try to relax as much as possible. The more nervous you are, the more likely it is to cause pain and affect the results of the examination.

When should a colposcopy be performed?

1. Cervical diseases: cervical erosion, cervical polyps, cervical endometriosis

2. Vulvovaginal inflammation: Vulvar nutritional disorders (leukoplakia), condyloma acuminatum, suspicious lesions of the vulva and vagina

3. Women with a family history of cervical cancer

4. TCT positive

Features of colposcopy

1. No trauma, no pain, and no risk of cross infection to patients.

2. Improving the accuracy of early diagnosis of cervical cancer is the goal of cervical cancer prevention screening.

3. The hit rate of colposcopy biopsy is higher, it can detect subtle lesions early, dynamically observe the changes of reproductive tract diseases, and leave a permanent objective record.

What are the contraindications for colposcopy?

(1) Choose colposcopy for screening. Generally, the best time is 7 to 10 days after the end of menstruation, as this is the time to better judge the results.

(2) Before a colposcopy, women undergoing the examination should refrain from vaginal intercourse or vaginal douching or vaginal medication at least 24 hours in advance.

(3) It is not recommended to use colposcopy in cases of inflammation. It is recommended to first treat the inflammation before considering using colposcopy to avoid related instruments irritating the inflammation, thereby aggravating the gynecological inflammation problem and ultimately causing secondary damage to the patient's body.
