What are the medicinal value and effects of Feilong Palm Blood?

In traditional Chinese medicine, Feilong Palm Blood is a Chinese medicinal material that can treat diseases. It is often distributed in relatively dry environments, and its quantity is greater the thinner the soil, the greater its quantity. Especially in Shaanxi and other places, including China's treasure island Taiwan Province, you can see the figure of Feilong Zhangxue. So the question is, in actual clinical treatment, what is the effect of Feilong Palm Blood?

Medicinal value

The whole plant is used as an herbal medicine, mostly the root. Tastes bitter and numb. It is warm in nature, slightly toxic, and can promote blood circulation, dissipate blood stasis, dispel wind and dampness, reduce swelling and relieve pain. Treat colds, stomachache, intercostal neuralgia, rheumatic bone pain, bruises, hemoptysis, etc.

The decoction of the root bark can be made into an injection for intramuscular injection or acupuncture injection at the painful area, which has a good effect on chronic low back and leg pain.

Pharmacological Action

[Nature and flavor and meridians] Spicy, slightly bitter, warm.

[Functions and indications] Disperses blood stasis and stops bleeding, dispels wind and dampness, reduces swelling and detoxifies.

Root bark: trauma, rheumatoid arthritis, intercostal neuralgia, stomachache, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea; external use for fractures and traumatic bleeding.

Leaves: used externally to treat carbuncle, furuncle, swelling and poison, and snake bites.

[Usage and Dosage] 3-5 qian of root bark, decocted in water or soaked in wine for oral administration; for external use, appropriate amount, mash or grind into powder and apply to the affected area. Take appropriate amount of fresh leaves, mash them and apply externally.

The roots and leaves contain celandine, which is a neuromuscular toxin and also has an inhibitory effect on the heart. Small doses can cause miscarriage in guinea pigs, while large doses can cause paralysis and death. The root can be used to treat amenorrhea.

Clinical Application

Treating chronic low back and leg pain

Use 1:1 Sanbaibang injection (2 ml each), 1 to 2 injections each time, once a day, intramuscular injection or acupoint injection. A total of 40 cases were observed, of which 29 were injected intramuscularly and 11 were injected at acupoints (Shenshu, Dachangshu, Ciliao, Chengshan). Except for one case of spinal tuberculosis who had no effect, the other 39 cases all had significant analgesic effects. After 6 months of observation after treatment, 17 cases had no recurrence of pain; although recurrence occurred, the pain was alleviated and the number of attacks decreased in 22 cases. No side effects or toxic reactions were found during use.
