Precautions after medical abortion

Precautions after medical abortion

Medical abortion is also a common method of terminating pregnancy. Its advantage is that it is convenient and does not require surgical operation. However, its side effects are also obvious, and it can easily lead to incomplete abortion. Therefore, when performing a medical abortion, you must strictly follow the doctor's instructions. After the medical abortion, you must pay attention to relaxation and go to the hospital for examination in time if you experience any discomfort.

Precautions after medical abortion

1. After taking the medicine for medical abortion, if there is vaginal bleeding, continue to take the medicine and do not stop taking it. Use a spittoon for urination and defecation, and pay attention to whether there is any tissue discharged. If you have any, you need to see a doctor for examination. If vaginal bleeding is more than twice the amount of menstrual flow, you should seek medical attention immediately and be closely observed, and the obstetrician and gynecologist will handle it as appropriate.

2. Some pregnant women experience mild nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, lower abdominal pain and other discomforts after taking medication for medical abortion. Some may also develop a rash, but generally no treatment is required.

3. At 8 a.m. on the fourth day, come to the hospital on an empty stomach or 2 hours after eating and take 0.6 g (3 tablets) of rice essence orally with warm water (not exceeding 30°C), rest in bed for 2 hours, and be observed in the outpatient clinic for 6 hours. Pay attention to whether there is any discharge of pregnancy products, bleeding and its side effects after taking the medicine.

4. Rest for two weeks after the abortion and keep the vagina clean. Do not take a bath in a tub for two weeks after surgery. Sexual intercourse is strictly prohibited within one month.

5. When taking medical abortion medication, you cannot take salicylates, indomethacin and other analgesics at the same time.

6. If no tissue is discharged after 6 hours of medication, you can go home without any abnormalities or special circumstances. If there is heavy bleeding, see a doctor at any time after medical abortion, and bring the discharged tissue to the hospital for doctor's identification or send for medical examination.

7. Those who take medication for medical abortion need to go to the hospital for follow-up examinations on the 8th, 15th and 43rd day after taking the medication to see how their recovery is going.

How long does it take to get your period after medical abortion?

How long it takes to get your period after medical abortion depends on your individual constitution. Generally, your period will come 20 days after medical abortion. Curettage surgery will cause varying degrees of damage to the inner wall of the uterus. Some people will take a longer time to recover, while others will take a shorter time. This determines whether and when menstruation occurs. If menstruation still does not come normally after two menstrual cycles, you should see a doctor promptly and have an ultrasound and endocrine examination to understand the condition of the endometrium.

In fact, the time of miscarriage can be used as the time of a new menstrual cycle. Therefore, it is normal for menstruation to be advanced or delayed by one week after abortion. If you have your period and the amount, color, etc. are normal, you don't need to go to the hospital.
