The difference between gynecological color Doppler ultrasound and vaginal Doppler ultrasound

The difference between gynecological color Doppler ultrasound and vaginal Doppler ultrasound

Gynecological color ultrasound and vaginal ultrasound are both relatively common color ultrasounds, which are upgraded based on ordinary B-ultrasound. The main difference between vaginal ultrasound and color ultrasound is that they cover a wider range of female gynecological diseases. Their examination sites are also different, and the examination methods are also different. Vaginal ultrasound requires the probe to be inserted deep into the female's vagina, so it is better for examining the cervix and ovaries.

The difference between vaginal ultrasound and color Doppler ultrasound: vaginal ultrasound has a wider inspection range than color Doppler ultrasound

First of all, everyone should understand that color ultrasound is an upgraded version of ordinary B-ultrasound. Ordinary B-ultrasound is a black and white image and can only see limited information. As the name suggests, color ultrasound is a colorful image. The observed image is mainly red and blue. The side facing the probe appears red, and the opposite side appears blue. This technology can observe the blood flow of the fetus, which is helpful for timely detection of fetal abnormalities. For example, if there is a blood flow ring in the fetus's neck, it means that the umbilical cord has been wrapped around the neck, which can lead to death from suffocation. Color ultrasound can detect many more problems than ordinary B-ultrasound and is more accurate. Generally, color ultrasound is enough for female friends to have a gynecological examination, but if you want to check for gynecological cancer, tumors, etc., a more accurate examination, namely vaginal ultrasound, is still needed. The main clinical applications of transvaginal ultrasound include: follicle monitoring, early pregnancy diagnosis, early ectopic pregnancy, uterine fibroids, uterine cavity lesions, trophoblastic tumors, pelvic masses, inflammation, pelvic inlet plane (callosal internal diameter and transverse inlet diameter), fetal head deformity, placenta previa, etc.

The difference between vaginal ultrasound and color Doppler ultrasound: different examination sites

Vaginal ultrasound is a vaginal B-ultrasound, in which the ultrasound probe is placed in the vagina or rectum (anus) for examination. For women who have had sexual life, the examination can be performed through the vagina, and for women who have not had sexual life, the B-ultrasound examination can be performed through the rectum. Color ultrasound, like ordinary B-ultrasound, moves the probe directly on the abdomen. Most people are more accepting of abdominal B-ultrasound because many doctors who perform vaginal B-ultrasound are rather rough and painful, and women are more shy and find it difficult to relax during the examination.

The difference between vaginal ultrasound and color Doppler ultrasound: No need to hold urine for vaginal ultrasound

Because vaginal ultrasound involves placing the B-ultrasound probe in the vagina or rectum (anus), there is no need to drink a lot of water like with color ultrasound, and you don’t need to fill your bladder completely before the examination. And because it is close to the uterus and ovaries, the images are clear and have high resolution, so the results of transvaginal ultrasound examination are more accurate.

Difference between vaginal ultrasound and color Doppler ultrasound 4: In many cases, vaginal ultrasound cannot be performed

Color ultrasound is relatively easy to do. As long as you can hold your urine successfully, you can do it whenever you want. However, transvaginal ultrasound cannot be performed in many cases. Vaginal ultrasound is not suitable for people with bleeding, such as menstruation, irregular vaginal bleeding; nor is it suitable for people with infectious diseases, such as vaginitis, sexually transmitted diseases, other cervical diseases, vaginal diseases and some vulvar diseases, in order to prevent infection, cross-infection and bleeding and other adverse consequences. Virgins, unmarried women (unless the patient or family members strongly request and sign), those with advanced inflammation of the vagina or uterus, and those with unexplained vaginal bleeding are not suitable for transvaginal ultrasound. Therefore, if you have a disease that is not suitable for transvaginal ultrasound, you should remind your doctor in time to avoid transvaginal ultrasound.
