The culprit for winter cough

The culprit for winter cough

Many people will have incessant coughing in winter, and the incidence rate of this phenomenon is relatively high. Through investigation, it is found that there are five main reasons for the persistent cough, such as eosinophilic bronchitis, cough variant asthma, or gastroesophageal reflux, etc. These are all common causes of cough in winter. Let us take a closer look at this aspect.

The culprit for winter cough

Culprit 1: Eosinophilic bronchitis

Symptoms: It often manifests as an irritating dry cough, which can occur during the day or at night, occasionally with a small amount of phlegm. It is mostly caused by inhalation of irritants and is usually more common in smokers. Some patients are sensitive to fumes, dust, odors or cold air, which are often triggers of coughing. Examination: These patients have normal X-ray or CT chest examination and lung function test, and a special examination called induced sputum cytology is required for diagnosis.

Culprit 2: Postnasal drip syndrome

Symptoms: Coughing mainly occurs during the day, and is less common after falling asleep. In addition to coughing and expectoration, patients with postnasal drip syndrome may also experience throat drip, a foreign body sensation in the oropharynx, or a "paste sticking to the throat" feeling, and may have symptoms such as frequent throat clearing, throat itching, or nasal itching, nasal congestion, runny nose, and sneezing. The patient's illness is often induced or aggravated by a cold (respiratory medicine). Sometimes patients also experience hoarseness, and even talking can induce coughing.

Cough variant asthma

Symptoms: When the seasons change, some people start coughing, which is most obvious at night or in the early morning and cannot be cured for a long time. It may also be accompanied by some "cold" symptoms, such as sneezing, clear runny nose, nasal congestion, etc., and the nose and eyes often itch. Coughing is often induced or aggravated by inhaling cold air, smoke, oil smoke and laughing. At this time, most people will think it is a cold, but the symptoms are still not relieved after taking cold medicine and cough medicine.

Culprit 4: Allergic cough

Symptoms: The main symptoms of this type of cough are dry cough, no sputum, always feeling itchy throat, no fever and other symptoms; if encountered with odor, smoke or cold air and other stimulation, choking cough will occur.

Culprit 5: Gastroesophageal reflux cough

Symptoms: Gastroesophageal reflux cough is often accompanied by heartburn, acid reflux, belching and other symptoms. Some patients suddenly have attacks while eating or sleeping, with severe choking, shortness of breath, and wheezing.
