Lumbar spondylosis problem

Lumbar spondylosis problem

The problem of lumbar spondylolisthesis often troubles middle-aged and elderly people. Suffering from this disease will cause lower back pain, joint instability, and in severe cases it may even cause patients to suffer from unbearable pain and be unable to stand upright. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the care of lumbar spondylolisthesis. During the pain, protective gear should be worn and adequate rest should be taken. After the symptoms stabilize and there is no pain, you can do sit-ups to exercise the strength of your lumbar spine. The bed at home can be replaced with a hard wooden bed. These can effectively alleviate and treat the problem of lumbar spondylosis.

Overview

Lumbar spondylolisthesis is more common in middle-aged and elderly people, and is often accompanied by severe low back and leg pain. The occurrence of this disease is closely related to daily labor and trauma. The pathological manifestations are non-union, degeneration, or fracture of the lumbar vertebral arch, which makes the small joints unstable and the vertebral curvature disordered, leading to the vertebral slippage forward or backward, stimulating and compressing the spinal nerves, cauda equina, etc., causing a series of symptoms such as low back pain and leg pain. There are two main treatment methods for lumbar spondylolisthesis: surgical treatment and conservative treatment. For milder cases of lumbar spondylolisthesis, conservative treatment is generally recommended. The pain symptoms can be relieved by correcting daily behavioral habits and performing a series of rehabilitation exercises.

Spondylolisthesis usually does not require surgery

If the patient is in the acute pain phase, he or she usually needs to wear a waist brace all day for about 1 month. If the symptoms are alleviated, the wearing time can be gradually shortened. For those with more severe spondylolisthesis, they should continue to wear a waist brace during periods when the waist needs to be straightened to avoid worsening of symptoms.

In fact, most spondylolisthesis cases do not require surgery, and back pain can often be improved through conservative treatment. For example, moderate bed rest, medications and muscle relaxants, local deep heat or physical therapy such as electrical stimulation can reduce back pain, back muscle spasms, and relieve nerve compression.

Nursing methods for lumbar spondylolisthesis

1. Do sit-ups regularly to strengthen your abdominal muscles and protect your lumbar spine

There are two common causes of lumbar spondylolisthesis. One is trauma, such as a car accident or a fall. The other is long-term poor posture that causes abnormal pressure on the lumbar spine. Once the lumbar structure becomes weak, it is prone to slippage. Therefore, in the rehabilitation process, in addition to requiring patients to control their weight and maintain correct posture, exercise therapy is also the most important part. Although exercise does not produce immediate results, it can gradually strengthen the stability of the spine and effectively improve spinal slippage.

If you choose to strengthen the lumbar spine, sit-ups are one of the most effective methods. Combined with stretching exercises of the posterior thigh muscles, it can not only strengthen the abdominal muscles, but also support the lumbar spine and prevent further slippage of the lumbar spine. However, this rehabilitation posture is very important and must be correct, otherwise other injuries may occur. Therefore, patients should do it under the guidance of a doctor.

2. Patients with lumbar spondylolisthesis should choose a hard bed board

For patients with chronic lumbar spondylolisthesis, bed rest is generally not required. If they need to rest, the bed should not be too soft. They can sleep on a hard bed, or a hard spring bed with a hard board under the mattress. The mattress should be of appropriate hardness and softness, so as not to induce waist and leg pain when getting up in the morning. In addition, you should also pay attention to your sleeping position. Do not lie on your stomach. It is best to sleep on your side with your knees bent. When lying on your back, you can put a pillow under your knees to relieve the pressure on your waist.

3. Don’t lift heavy objects

After the lumbar pain has improved, the patient should not lift heavy objects. If he wants to pick up something on the floor, he must bend his knees and keep his back straight. Try not to sit on a bench, but sit on a high-back chair to avoid excessive fatigue of the waist hanging in the air. If the chair is too high, you should use a small stool to support your feet to relieve pain and improve the strength of the back and abdominal muscles.
