Sudden weight loss and fatigue, what disease

Sudden weight loss and fatigue, what disease

When you go to the hospital to see a doctor, the doctor will not judge what disease the patient has based on one symptom. Instead, he will make the judgment based on multiple symptoms and examinations and tests. Many people get extremely nervous when they have a little health problem. There are also some careless people who don’t go for a check-up even if they feel unwell, always thinking that they are fine. Regular physical examinations are still necessary, and you must go for a check-up if you suddenly feel unwell. Next, I will tell you what diseases cause sudden weight loss and fatigue.

1. What is the reason for sudden weight loss?

In addition to cancer, sudden weight loss may also be caused by the following four diseases.

1Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism refers to hyperthyroidism, which is a disease caused by the thyroid gland synthesizing and releasing too much thyroid hormone, resulting in hypermetabolism and sympathetic nerve excitement, causing palpitations, sweating, increased eating and bowel movements, and weight loss.

The appetite of patients with hyperthyroidism is not affected and they still eat the same amount of food, but their weight decreases significantly, and they also have symptoms such as a thick neck, palpitations, and insomnia.

2. Diabetes

"Three mores and one less" are the main symptoms of diabetes, specifically referring to drinking more, eating more, urinating more, and weight loss. Diabetes can also cause a person to lose weight significantly. This is mainly because the patient does not have enough insulin in the body, and cannot fully utilize the glucose in the blood, but instead consumes the body's fat and protein for energy.

3. Cirrhosis

The main reason why patients with cirrhosis become emaciated is that liver disease causes the body's anabolism to decrease and metabolism to increase, resulting in more fat consumption and weight loss. In addition, patients with cirrhosis may experience loss of appetite, abdominal distension, gastrointestinal dysfunction and even malabsorption syndrome. They will naturally become thinner if they eat less and do not absorb food.

4Chronic gastrointestinal diseases

Suffering from chronic gastrointestinal diseases such as chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, duodenitis, chronic nonspecific enteritis, etc., will reduce the digestion and absorption function and cause weight loss.

People with the above diseases will generally experience sudden weight loss. If you are overweight and have been exercising and dieting, losing 1 to 3 catties per week is healthy.

It is not advisable to go on a diet or take other extreme weight loss methods to lose weight quickly in a week. If you find that you are not dieting or exercising as usual, but your weight is suddenly and rapidly decreasing, you should go to the hospital for a check-up in time to see if you have any of the above diseases.

3. Cancer cells rob normal cells of their nutrients, causing people to lose weight

Experts say that the main reason for weight loss caused by cancer is chronic consumption. The tumor continues to grow, and cancer cells increase and spread without restraint. The speed of their growth and their predatory nature are far beyond the reach of normal cells.

They compete with normal tissue cells for essential nutrients, causing the body to lack the nutrients it needs, and the patients will show increasingly obvious weight loss and weakness.

In addition, chronic bleeding is also an important factor causing weight loss. This is more prominent in digestive tract cancers such as gastric cancer.

Cancerous bleeding can be heavy or continuous. The former can often be seen at a glance, such as vomiting blood and black stools. The latter cannot be detected by the naked eye due to continuous small amounts of bleeding and lack of symptoms, and can only be detected by a positive fecal occult blood test. Most of these patients first show symptoms such as weight loss, fatigue, and anemia.

In addition, advanced cancer causes anorexia and indigestion, which will aggravate the patient's malignancy. For example, esophageal cancer obstruction makes the patient unable to eat or drink, which blocks the body's nutrient intake and makes the patient extremely emaciated.
